The Southern Women's Museum was formerly the Southern Women's Traditional House established by the Southern Women's History Group on April 29, 1985. Members of the Southern Women's History Group worked hard to mobilize and collect documents, images, artifacts and funds from millions of women and organizations throughout the Southern provinces to build a common house for Southern women - the Southern Women's Traditional House, which later developed into the Southern Women's Museum.

After 12 years of construction, the Sisters, members of the Southern Women's History Group, have officially handed over the Southern Women's Museum to their descendants with trust and expectations. Generations of museum staff have made every effort to build the team and make museum activities more and more professional, diverse, and in line with the integration trend; while preserving and promoting the historical tradition of women, paying tribute to those who have passed away.
Continuing the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", the Southern Women's Museum, during its professional activities, has mobilized and supported the construction of hundreds of gratitude houses, sent meaningful gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, female youth volunteers, female artillerymen, and female cadres during the resistance war...

Over 40 years of formation and development, the Southern Women's Museum has successfully completed its mission in preserving and promoting the historical and cultural values of Southern women.
To date, the Museum is preserving 44,108 artifacts, including 21,594 original artifacts and 22,514 scientific documents related to women's contributions in the two resistance wars against France and the US, in the economic , cultural and social fields.
Mr. Tran The Thuan, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, acknowledged and praised the sense of responsibility, dynamism and creativity of the museum's staff and workers who have overcome difficulties and challenges to grow stronger and more effectively serve the political tasks of the city's cultural sector, actively contributing to the cause of preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

“In the coming time, I suggest that the Southern Women's Museum should focus on further promoting research and collection activities, continue to modernize activities from displaying, explaining, inventorying, preserving artifacts, propaganda and education work, and organize more diverse and rich activities to meet the increasing cultural enjoyment needs of all classes of people,” Mr. Tran The Thuan emphasized.
The Director of the City Department of Culture and Sports suggested that the Museum should closely coordinate with other scientific sectors, including the tourism economic sector, to effectively perform its research and education functions, contributing to the dissemination of the nation's precious historical values, especially the great contributions of Southern women to the cause of national construction and development.

On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Southern Women's Museum is organizing a special exhibition "40-year journey - Stories from artifacts" to introduce to the public the Museum's artifacts donated and collected over the past 40 years to inspire the younger generation about the patriotism and will to rise of Vietnamese women in general and Southern women in particular.
Each artifact is a story associated with the heroic struggle of Southern women, associated with the contributions of women in all aspects of social life.
