Mr. Le Quang Toan - Vice Chairman of Ia Kenh Commune People's Committee - said: The whole commune has 7 hamlets and villages with 1,021 households. In the commune, there are 2 natural lakes, Ia Se Lake and Ia Nao Lake, creating unique characteristics.

Along with that, the gong culture and traditional festivals here are still preserved by the Jrai ethnic people. According to statistics, there are currently 17 sets of gongs in the commune. Besides, ethnic minorities also preserve some musical instruments such as goong and t'rung to serve festivals such as po thi, celebrating new rice, and offering water drops.

In addition, people also preserve some traditional crafts such as: brocade weaving, knitting, sculpture...

“From those advantages, it can be seen that Ia Kenh commune is suitable for agricultural and cultural tourism models, including gong culture,” said Mr. Toan.

Pursuant to Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated August 16, 2021 of the Pleiku City Party Committee, term XII, on developing tourism into an important economic sector of the city in the 2021-2025 period and orientation to 2030, Ia Kenh commune has chosen Nhao 1 village and Mo Nu village to develop a community tourism model.

Mr. Byup - Party Cell Secretary and Head of Nhao 1 Village - said: In early 2021, Nhao 1 Village was recognized by the People's Committee of Pleiku City as meeting new rural standards. In recent years, people have boldly converted ineffective crops to fruit trees; at the same time, focusing on agricultural production in the direction of commodities such as: growing vegetables, purple sugarcane and raising cows, pigs for breeding... Thanks to that, people's lives have been improved.

“In addition to economic development, villagers still preserve traditional cultural features of the Jrai people such as: brocade weaving, knitting, rain-praying ceremony, new rice celebration, and grave-leaving ceremony. In addition, the villagers are very friendly and willing to guide tourists to experience, learn about traditional cultural identity and enjoy Jrai cuisine . This is the potential for Nhao 1 village to develop community tourism and experiential tourism,” Mr. Byup shared.

Combining cultural preservation with community tourism development

Currently, the model of experiential tourism associated with education is attracting the attention of many tourists. In Nhao 1 village, Ia Kenh Agricultural and Tourism Cooperative has proactively deployed this model since April 2023 under the name Zin's Farm.

Mr. Dang Thanh Du - Director of the Cooperative - said: On an area of nearly 6 hectares, we have arranged many areas to grow flowers, fruit trees, especially an area for tourists to sit and drink coffee with a green landscape, watching Ham Rong mountain, coffee gardens, and rice fields.

The cooperative also cooperates with households cultivating rice, industrial crops, fruit trees, purple sugarcane, and corn on an area of more than 20 hectares to develop an experiential tourism model associated with education.

After more than 1 year of operation, Zin's Farm has attracted more than 100,000 visitors to visit, experience, relax and enjoy cuisine. In addition, Zin's Farm also organizes cultural and artistic exchange programs to serve tourists.

Speaking to reporters, Vice Chairman of the Ia Kenh Commune People's Committee added: In recent years, community tourism has been an advantage in attracting tourists. Having identified this, the Commune People's Committee has focused on exploiting the advantages of natural landscapes as well as the richness and diversity of culture and customs of indigenous peoples.

Jrai people join hands to preserve and restore communal houses, water drops, and gong culture to become highlights to attract investment and develop tourism.

“By 2025, the commune strives to basically form a community tourism model. By 2030, these tourism models will initially develop stably, with tourism products imbued with local cultural identity, environmentally friendly, thereby making an important contribution to the construction and development of the city,” Mr. Toan emphasized.
