Heavy rains cause flooding in 92 areas of the Philippines
Authorities said more than 382,000 people in the Philippines were affected, including 12,698 people who had to be evacuated. Heavy rains caused flooding in 92 areas in the Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Zamboanga regions. At least 57 houses were damaged, 36 areas lost power and 34 ports were temporarily closed. Offices and schools on the main island of Luzon were temporarily closed on October 23.
The Philippine central bank has suspended foreign exchange trading but stock trading remains normal. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered agencies to closely monitor the situation and warned that “the worst is yet to come” due to unprecedented rainfall.
