The first public hospital has a UV disinfection robot

On the evening of November 16, a representative of Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC) said that this place has just officially put into use 2 new disinfection robots using ultraviolet (UV) technology.

This is a specialized device that supports sterilization of operating rooms, transplant rooms and drug preparation rooms, to ensure a maximum safe environment before receiving important surgeries.

In particular, Cho Ray Hospital is also the first public health facility in Vietnam to be equipped with the above new technology disinfection robot system.

Dr. Phung Manh Thang, Head of the Infection Control Department, said that Cho Ray is the only special-grade specialized general hospital in the South, receiving millions of patients each year and performing thousands of treatments using specialized techniques.

These include organ transplants and many other complex invasive procedures. As organ donations and transplants increase, the pressure on operating rooms and overall infection control procedures increases.

The head of the Infection Control Department analyzed that each organ donation at Cho Ray Hospital can bring a chance of life to 3-6 patients, which means that in the same period of time, the unit must prepare many operating rooms, transplant rooms, post-operative rooms, etc. to operate simultaneously.

In this situation, the operating room system must operate continuously at high frequency, requiring absolute precision in all stages of infection control. Any small error in the preparation of the sterile environment can lead to serious complications, directly affecting the patient's life.

"In infection control, especially in the field of organ transplantation - where patients are on immunosuppressive drugs - maintaining a sterile environment is important not only to prevent local infection but also to protect the long-term outcome of the transplant.

Any measure to reduce preparation time while still optimizing safety is vital," Dr. Thang analyzed.

New solution to protect expensive, sophisticated equipment

For many years, fogging has been the standard method of disinfection in many hospitals. However, in the current situation, this method has many shortcomings such as long waiting time, chemicals easily deposit and damage equipment, and requires manual operation.

These limitations are even more evident in organ transplant operating rooms, where the value of every minute is extremely high for human life.

According to Dr. Thang, a chemical spray operating room needs at least 2 hours to be put into use. With the UV disinfection robot, it only takes 10-15 minutes to complete the entire cycle.

The robot is programmed according to the space map, automatically moves and emits UV-C rays to destroy microorganisms on all surfaces and hidden corners that are difficult for humans to operate. This device is also equipped with the feature of automatically turning off the rays when detecting the presence of humans, to ensure absolute safety.

In addition to speed, UV robots also have high stability in disinfection efficiency. The UV method does not create vapor or chemical residue, does not corrode metals or damage electronic equipment - which is a constant concern in modern operating rooms, which contain a series of expensive and sophisticated equipment.

By putting into operation the above two robots, Cho Ray Hospital demonstrates its commitment to always strive to deploy and apply new techniques and modern equipment to serve patients.

From deploying electronic medical records EMR, building a synchronous HIS - EMR system to equipping MRI 3.0 Tesla... Cho Ray Hospital is aiming to build a "smart hospital - paperless hospital", affirming its pioneering role in digital transformation and applying AI technology in the Vietnamese healthcare industry.
