Can Tho Central General Hospital successfully performed the 10th kidney transplant

Patient D. N. T (37 years old, living in Can Tho City) was diagnosed with high blood pressure and treated with antihypertensive drugs. However, he later had swelling in both legs and was hospitalized with a diagnosis of stage 5 chronic kidney failure. The patient was prescribed emergency dialysis and has been undergoing peritoneal dialysis to date.

After preparing legal documents and active treatment, the kidney transplant was performed on April 22 using the technique of taking the left kidney by laparoscopic method from the donor and transplanting it into the right iliac fossa of the recipient.

The patient is now awake, responsive, discharged home and has a follow-up appointment.

The team is performing surgery.

Previously, on April 25, 2024, Can Tho Central General Hospital successfully performed the first kidney transplant, officially becoming the 26th kidney transplant center in the country, and the first hospital in the Mekong Delta to successfully deploy this advanced technique.

The patient is gradually stabilizing and his health is improving.

With 10 consecutive kidney transplants with good results, the hospital has made great strides in the field of organ transplantation, aiming to make kidney transplantation a routine technique at the hospital.

According to Can Tho Central General Hospital, following successes in the field of organ transplantation, the hospital has developed a plan to send personnel for specialized training in liver transplantation techniques, with the goal of performing the first liver transplant in 2026.
