Many European newspapers, as well as reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano, have confirmed the rumors that Luis Diaz wants to leave Liverpool. Specifically, Diaz wants to move to Barcelona, after receiving a storm of criticism from "Reds" fans.
Two days ago, Diaz was spotted partying at an event in Colombia. This image was deemed inappropriate given the somber atmosphere in Liverpool following the tragic accident involving Diogo Jota.
Jota and Diaz were once close teammates. Two years ago, the Portuguese superstar held up his teammate's number 7 jersey to encourage Diaz, after his father was kidnapped in his home country of Colombia.
Many Liverpool fans were therefore disappointed with Diaz, as the player acted insensitively during Jota's funeral.
"Colombia is almost halfway around the world from Portugal, I understand why Diaz couldn't attend Jota's funeral. I also understand his presence at an event, but he shouldn't have been laughing and partying like that," one fan commented on social media.
Luis Diaz has been heavily criticized on Liverpool fan forums and fanpages. Previously, the superstar had also been approached by Barcelona and several major clubs in Saudi Arabia, but Liverpool consistently refused his offers.
Recent events have once again changed the course of Diaz's future. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barca have approached Diaz again, and the 28-year-old striker has reportedly reached a personal agreement with the Catalan club.
This news is expected to shake up the European football transfer market. Barca had previously been closely pursuing Nico Williams, but the Spanish striker chose to stay at Athletic Bilbao.
Having failed to sign Williams, Barca were reportedly approaching Marcus Rashford – a player Man United are keen to offload. But now they are more likely to opt for Diaz, putting both Liverpool and Man United in a difficult position.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is also interested in buying Luis Diaz. It's not out of the question that the German giants might be the ones to win the race, thanks to their more stable finances compared to Barca.
