Since grade 10, students have been exposed to questions with materials outside of the textbook through periodic tests and survey exams. Thanks to that, students enter the 12th grade exam review period with a solid mindset, no longer surprised when encountering new texts in the exam.

However, to achieve high results, revision does not stop at just getting familiar with the text, but also needs to delve into practicing test-taking skills. Teachers mainly focus on guiding students on how to answer each type of question in the test structure, especially increasing writing practice and marking specific papers to help them improve their expression and argumentation skills.

In addition, teachers often give students practice with literary works outside of textbooks, helping students access more new materials and at the same time master the genre characteristics to effectively handle the requirements in the test.

In the context of the exam that may use new materials, students need to practice a series of skills such as: reading and analyzing the topic, answering reading comprehension questions, writing the right type of essay, analyzing and synthesizing the problem. In particular, the skill of relating and connecting literary content with life and personal experience will help the writing become more profound and in-depth.

According to teacher Hoang Thi Hong Minh, to do well in the Literature exam, students need to pay attention to some important points: First of all, read the question carefully, identify the correct requirements and scope of knowledge to be developed. In the reading comprehension section, answers need to be concise, clear and to the point. In the Writing section, students must ensure the correct writing length according to the requirements (paragraphs of about 200 words, essays of about 600 words), and at the same time, make a clear outline before writing to ensure a coherent structure.

When writing a paragraph or a social argumentative essay, it is necessary to closely combine reasoning and evidence, encouraging the expression of personal opinions in a convincing manner. For literary argumentative essays, students need to highlight the characteristics of the genre and know how to apply literary theory knowledge appropriately. Presenting the article clearly, neatly, avoiding spelling and expression errors is also an important factor.

Studying Literature is not only for exams but also an opportunity for students to practice thinking, improve their ability to express themselves and perceive life. Faced with this change, students need to have a solid understanding of genres and text types instead of memorizing each specific text. At the same time, it is necessary to increase practice of reading comprehension and writing skills with texts outside of textbooks, especially texts similar in genre and content to works studied in the Literature program for grades 11 and 12. The practice process also needs to focus on identifying and analyzing genre, content and artistic elements of texts outside of textbooks, a key skill that helps students be proactive in dealing with new types of questions.

Compared to previous years, this year's exam requires students to have a clear adaptation to the new way of making questions. Previously, students mainly reviewed the texts they learned in textbooks and got familiar with familiar questions. Now, when the exam uses texts outside of the textbook, students must apply a synthesis of the knowledge and skills they have been equipped with.

This means that students need to master knowledge about genres and text types, instead of memorizing the content of each specific text. In addition, it is necessary to increase reading comprehension and writing practice with texts outside of textbooks, especially texts equivalent to works studied in grades 11 and 12.

For the reading comprehension section, students should practice the skill of reading the text carefully, clearly identifying the requirements of each question according to the levels of recognition, understanding, application and answering according to that level. For example, in questions at the recognition level, students only need to answer briefly, with correct information, without analysis or explanation.

In the writing section, students need to pay attention to ensuring the correct format of the paragraph or essay, and pay attention to the length appropriate to the requirements of the topic: about 200 words for a paragraph and 600 words for an essay.

In the context of the Literature exam with new materials, students need to develop a series of important skills, starting with reading comprehension skills. Ms. Nguyet Nga believes that students should practice doing many reading comprehension exercises with materials outside the textbook, these materials follow the genre and text type requirements of the program, equivalent to the texts in Literature textbooks for grades 11 and 12.

Students need to practice from writing introductory sentences, body paragraphs to concluding paragraphs so that they are clear, meet requirements and coherent. At the same time, it is necessary to practice the skill of writing social argumentative essays, especially steps such as analyzing the topic, finding ideas, outlining, writing introductions, body paragraphs and conclusions. When mastering these component skills, students will write coherent, in-depth essays and express personal opinions, an important requirement in the 2018 general education program.
