Accused of selling scientific articles, Associate Professor Dinh Cong Huong resigns from the Mathematics Council

The above announcement was announced by the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (Nafosted) on the afternoon of November 8 after the Mathematics Science Council held a meeting to consider the proposal of Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Cong Huong.

Associate Professor Huong is a lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, a member of the Mathematics Council, Nafosted Foundation for the period 2022-2024.

Previously, Nafosted Foundation received a complaint about Associate Professor Huong selling scientific articles to a number of universities.

After that, Associate Professor Huong admitted to having scientific research cooperation with Ton Duc Thang University and Thu Dau Mot University. He submitted an application to resign from the Council on the grounds that it affected the Council's reputation.

Through the process of discussion and comparison with the regulations on research integrity, the members of the Nafosted Foundation's scientific council agreed to let Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Cong Huong stop participating in the Council.

The Fund strongly supports ensuring research integrity in scientific and technological activities, contributing to creating a standard environment and international integration in Vietnam.

The Science and Technology Council, established by the Fund Management Board, consists of members who are prestigious scientists and managers with high professional qualifications, selected from the Fund's expert database on the basis of professional achievements and credibility of scientists and managers in the same professional field.

According to statistics from MathSciNet - the database of the American Mathematical Association, Associate Professor Huong has 42 scientific research works. Of which, 13 works are under his name as a member of Ton Duc Thang University (HCMC), 4 works are under the name of Thu Dau Mot University ( Binh Duong ). During the time of conducting these studies, he was a full-time lecturer at Quy Nhon University (Binh Dinh).

Associate Professor Huong admitted the incident and explained that he had signed a scientific research cooperation contract with the two schools mentioned above. The reason was that Quy Nhon University did not prohibit this if the lecturer had completed his duties, while he was under pressure from his family's finances .

" Writing a research paper is very difficult, painful, takes a lot of effort, and goes through many stages. I have completed my task, put in so much effort, I also hope to have more income," Mr. Huong told the press.

On the other hand, he said he did not use the facilities and laboratories of Quy Nhon University to conduct research projects for other units.
