Accused of prescribing fake milk, doctor says: 'Based on published ingredients'

On April 22, speaking with Thanh Nien reporters after a social media account posted an article accusing him of prescribing fake milk, Dr. BBBS (currently working at a hospital in Hue City and having a private clinic specializing in pediatrics) explained and justified the incident.

Not on the list of milk announced as fake milk?

According to Dr. S., the types of milk he prescribes for his patients have all been licensed for circulation in Vietnam. Therefore, the quality of the milk is determined by the competent management agencies.

"Doctors only look at the information on what ingredients the milk contains and what diseases it is good for before prescribing," said Dr. S.

Dr. S. added that after the Ministry of Public Security provided substandard milk, he stopped prescribing that type of milk. Dr. S. also said that these types of milk are "substandard" and not "fake milk", because the content in the milk is less than 70% of the declared ingredients.

In particular, Bold Milk (the type of milk mentioned in the article accusing fake milk) that this doctor prescribed is for children with diarrhea (specifically named Bold Milk lactose-free) and normal children (Bold Milk Colostrum). Doctor S. confirmed that at the time of prescribing, this milk was not on the list of milks that were declared fake.

The milk that the Ministry of Public Security announced as "not meeting quality standards" was Bold Milk for pregnant women (Bold Milk For Mum Colostrum) and Bold Milk for diabetics (Bold Milk Glu Sure Colostrum). That is, the type of milk prescribed by Dr. S. and the type declared as fake milk were produced by the same company.

Dr. S. also confirmed that he only examined and prescribed medicine, not sold medicine or milk. After the incident, this doctor received many phone calls from parents asking about the harmful effects of milk, and he said that he answered all of them wholeheartedly and monitored the health of the children.

"After monitoring, the children showed no unusual symptoms. I also told the mothers to try to monitor their children," said Dr. S.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Security dismantled a ring producing, trading, and consuming fake milk powder in extremely large quantities in Hanoi and several other provinces and cities. This ring produced nearly 600 types of fake milk, including Bold Milk.

After the incident, fake milk became a hot topic discussed by mothers and consumers. Recently, on a Facebook group called "Hoi ly do dung ma va be Hue 75", an anonymous user posted about a BBBS doctor prescribing Bold Milk for a child patient. The post then received many likes and comments expressing concern and criticism of this doctor.
