Samsung has just released a software update for its Bespoke AI Family Hub smart refrigerator line. This update adds two new features: personal voice recognition (Voice ID) and double-tap control to activate the virtual assistant Bixby.
With Voice ID, the Bixby virtual assistant can distinguish different family members through voice. This feature allows the system to display personalized information such as schedules, images or individual settings corresponding to each person when interacting with the refrigerator.
Additionally, users can activate Bixby by double-tapping the device's screen while in standby mode. This control is designed to replace voice commands in noisy environments like the kitchen.
For example, if you are the mother of the family and ask to see your child's school schedule, the refrigerator will display the correct schedule you have synced with your phone.
Not only that, this personalization also extends to features that support daily life, such as users being able to ask the refrigerator to set an alarm on their phone.
In particular, if you are a person with poor eyesight, the refrigerator can also automatically adjust the display mode (such as color inversion, grayscale) according to the configuration on your personal phone without any manual operation.
According to information from Samsung, the above two features are available on some Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator models launched this year and will be deployed to other devices with AI Home screens in the near future.
The smart home market is dominated by giants like Amazon and Google with their Echo and Nest smart speaker lines.
While Samsung hasn't really had much success with its own-brand smart speakers, it has quickly realized that familiar home appliances like refrigerators are an ideal way to integrate AI technology and personalize the user experience.
