Editor's note: April 30, 1975 is an important milestone in the history of the Vietnamese nation, marking the unification of the country and opening a new era of development.

Over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City has risen to become the leading economic , financial, scientific and technological center of the country with a series of projects that are symbols of the aspiration to reach far.

The mentioned projects are not only proof of the remarkable development of Ho Chi Minh City but also demonstrate a long-term vision towards a smart, sustainable urban area.

Towards the grand celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, Ho Chi Minh City organized a vote for 50 typical construction works of the city.

4 important criteria

These are construction works and projects that have made a mark in the past 50 years and typical works and projects registered for city-level emulation; having a great impact on people's lives and the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

The 50 selected typical construction works must meet at least 1 of 4 criteria: scale of group B or higher; identified for investment in the Resolution of the City Party Congress through the periods; associated with the image of Ho Chi Minh City, awarded prestigious domestic and international awards, with the participation, contributions and dedication of many classes of people; have regional connectivity, creating great momentum for the development of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general.

To select 50 projects, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee established a 22-member Voting Council chaired by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong.

The Council is responsible for advising the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to issue a decision to select 50 outstanding construction works, as a basis for implementing the selection work; urging and reporting on the implementation results of relevant departments and branches in organizing the council for construction works under their management according to 4 criteria.

The Standing Body of the Voting Council (Department of Construction) synthesizes and reports the implementation results of relevant departments, branches and sectors to the council members for consideration and appraisal...

Imprint of emulation movement

Up to now, Ho Chi Minh City has listed 61 typical city-level emulation programs, works, and projects (hereinafter referred to as works) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

61 projects in 6 groups of fields completed or started on April 30, 2025 will not only change the urban appearance but also bring many practical benefits, meet the needs of urban development, and help Ho Chi Minh City become a smart and livable city.

These projects create momentum to attract domestic and foreign investment, enhance international competitiveness; improve people's lives by contributing to reducing traffic congestion, upgrading health, education, culture and sports services.

In the cultural and social field, there are 21 projects, typically the construction of cultural institutions including the children's cultural palace, the symphony - music - ballet theater, the multi-purpose performing arts center, and the Phu Tho circus and multi-purpose performance theater.

Notable sports facility construction projects include the construction of the new Phan Dinh Phung Sports Center, the upgrading of Thong Nhat Stadium, the repair of Phu Tho Gymnasium and Hoa Lu Stadium. Along with that is the construction of 4,500 classrooms and a sustainable poverty reduction program.

The economic sector has 6 projects. Of these, the most prominent is the project to establish an International Financial Center with the goal of turning Ho Chi Minh City into a financial center of the region and the world; attracting large financial institutions, creating opportunities for cooperation and strong economic development.

Many projects close to the people

There are 21 outstanding city-level emulation projects in the urban sector. Among them, An Phu intersection and traffic congestion reduction projects in the Tan Son Nhat airport area will be completed on April 30.

At the same time, a number of other key projects will start construction such as the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway, closed projects of Ring Road 2, Ring Road 4, Thu Thiem 4 bridge, Thu Thiem pedestrian bridge, Can Gio bridge... In addition, there is also the Can Gio international transit port project.

Regarding the housing development program, Ho Chi Minh City plans to complete the relocation and demolition of 14 severely damaged apartment buildings, repair 246 degraded apartment buildings; complete investment procedures to build 35,000 social housing units; and complete compensation and site clearance for 2,780 houses on and along canals.

A series of parks in districts 12, Binh Tan, Thu Duc city, and Cu Chi district will also be newly built or renovated with an additional area of ​​more than 108 hectares by the end of 2025.

The remaining projects are in the fields of science - technology, innovation; administrative reform; national defense, security and foreign affairs.

These projects are not only a testament to the remarkable development of Ho Chi Minh City but also demonstrate a long-term vision towards a modern, smart and sustainable city. This is not only an achievement in construction but also demonstrates a strategic vision, a symbol of innovation, integration and aspirations of Ho Chi Minh City in the future.

Elaborate preparation

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has established a 10-member Voting Council Working Group, headed by Nguyen Minh Thai, Deputy Head of the Construction Licensing Division of the Department of Construction. The task of the Working Group is to advise on reviewing and updating documents guiding criteria related to various fields to resolve difficulties and problems, if any, during the voting process, along with a number of other important tasks.

Relevant departments and branches are assigned to proactively organize a council to vote on construction works in their fields of management according to 4 criteria. Then, send the voting results to the Department of Construction for synthesis and report to the voting council for review and appraisal before submitting to the General Voting Council for approval.

Ho Chi Minh City also voted on 50 events, people, achievements... that made the city proudly named after Uncle Ho.

Specifically, vote for 50 outstanding individuals in the cause of building, protecting and developing Ho Chi Minh City. Thereby honoring and praising the effective contributions to the development of Ho Chi Minh City in the 50-year journey of building and developing; at the same time, motivating and encouraging people to continue to promote dynamism, creativity, continue to work, contribute in many forms, creating many valuable achievements, meeting the requirements of the city's development in the coming time.

Ho Chi Minh City also voted for 50 outstanding works in the field of literature and art; 50 outstanding events and activities of the city. In addition, 50 outstanding enterprises with key products and brands of Ho Chi Minh City were voted for, creating motivation to encourage enterprises to actively innovate, aiming at developing sustainable products, contributing to improving their position and competitive advantage in the market...
