“History of Vietnam in Pictures” is edited by researcher Tran Bach Dang. The project has gathered a team of artists from the University of Fine Arts, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture (Nguyen Trung Tin, Nguyen Quang Canh, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Nguyen Quang Vinh, Nguyen Huy Khoi...), prestigious historians (Dinh Van Lien, Le Van Nam, Ton Nu Quynh Tran, Nguyen Khac Thuan...) and editors from Tre Publishing House.
The book series presents Vietnamese history in a concise, engaging and systematic style through stories and beautiful pictures. The color versions are meticulously colored. The book is carefully designed, with beautiful pages and covers, both modern and imbued with Vietnamese identity. The authors and artists strive to reflect the historical context and details with the highest accuracy.
The book series is carried out from ancient Vietnamese people through the ages, from the legend of Son Tinh, Thuy Tinh, the Hung Kings, through thousands of years of Chinese domination to the independent period of the dynasties. The book series is divided into many volumes, each volume writes about a period or a character, a typical issue of that period. Each volume has its own independent structure but is harmonious in the overall picture of Vietnamese history. With such an arrangement, readers can read from any book without affecting their understanding of the other books.
The book series "History of Vietnam in Pictures" currently has a color version in Vietnamese and English. The color version of the book series was made with great effort, with the desire to approach the level of world history books. The book is elaborately colored in the language of painting, by the comic book artist group Nguyen Thuy Linh.
The English color version was translated by the British-Vietnamese couple, Patrick Barry and Mai Barry. The translation is in a narrative style, trying to accurately convey information in the native English language. The English version of the book series is generally called "A History of Vietnam in pictures". The first 8 books of the English version were awarded the Encouragement Prize - the 7th National Award for Foreign Information by the Central Propaganda Department.
This is one of the important book series of Tre Publishing House, exhibited at international book fairs, contributing to introducing Vietnamese culture and history to friends around the world and Vietnamese people abroad.
Mr. Nguyen Phan Nam An - Head of the Editorial Board of the Economic - Historical - Political book projects of Tre Publishing House, who is also in charge of this project at present, said that due to the limited time of History subjects at school and the need to cover many issues and many levels of gradual improvement, it is difficult for children to cover all of Vietnam's history at a uniform level, so the book series will help children systematize their historical knowledge through interesting historical details and stories in an inductive manner instead of a linear chronological manner.
According to Mr. Nam An, the book series is used by history teachers as additional reading exercises to help students easily understand and remember the historical knowledge taught at school. Over the past 30 years, many readers, from the elderly to young people and children, have sent in their comments to contribute to the bookshelf, including comments and requests. The most gratifying thing is that many readers keep asking when the new volume of the book series will be released. Some even made specific suggestions for topics, characters, and periods that they wanted Tre Publishing House to implement.
