The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Construction to be responsible for reviewing and ensuring sufficient grounds for planning adjustment according to the simplified procedures and processes prescribed in the Law on Planning; paying attention to assessing air traffic safety and avoiding overlap and conflicts. When there is sufficient grounds, the Minister of Construction will approve the planning adjustment and report to the Prime Minister according to regulations.
Previously, the Ministry of Construction submitted a proposal to add the two above-mentioned airports to the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. According to the proposal, Van Phong Airport is located in Van Thang commune (Van Ninh district), about 108km north of Cam Ranh International Airport, about 48km south of Tuy Hoa Airport ( Phu Yen ). The port planning area is located entirely on the coastal water surface, with an estimated area of about 497.1 hectares. The planned capacity by 2030 is about 1.5 million passengers/year, with a vision to 2050 of 2.5 million passengers/year; airport level 4E according to ICAO classification.
According to the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Van Phong and Mang Den have been identified as potential airport locations.
