Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar co-chaired the Vietnam-India Joint Committee meeting.

This morning, October 16th, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son welcomed and co-chaired the 18th session of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation with Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar.

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar paid an official visit to Vietnam and co-chaired the 18th session of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee on Economic , Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation from October 15-17.

On the morning of October 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son welcomed and held a private meeting with Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar.

Immediately after their private meeting, the two ministers co-chaired the 18th session of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Earlier, on the afternoon of October 15th, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar visited Tran Quoc Pagoda.

Vietnam and India established diplomatic relations on January 7, 1972. The two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2016. Currently, both sides are actively promoting the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2021-2023.

Both sides agreed to carefully coordinate the organization of high-level delegation exchanges and to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms, including the Vietnam-India Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Since its establishment in 1982, the Joint Committee mechanism has been regularly maintained by both countries.
