Botulinum blocks nerve impulses to muscles, causing paralysis of muscle movement. There are seven types of botulinum (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G), but only types A and B are used in medicine.

According to Dr. Ha, botulinum in cosmetics is often used in group A, helping to significantly reduce wrinkles in the forehead, eyes and neck, slim the jawline, shape the body contour... In addition, it can be used in the treatment of hyperhidrosis, hypersebum, and pore reduction.

Meanwhile, the botulinum toxin that poisoned many patients in Ho Chi Minh City is type B, which can easily lead to paralysis of all muscles and even death. The cosmetic injection botulinum type A (botox) only causes muscle weakness at the injection site.

"Botulinum A is currently licensed for use in the cosmetic industry worldwide. Although it is quite safe, you should not abuse Botox injections continuously, use more than the recommended dose, and choose a reputable facility to perform the procedure," Dr. Ha explained.

Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Huu Doanh, Director of the Central Dermatology Hospital, said that people's demand for beauty is currently very high, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the Central Dermatology Hospital received nearly 400,000 patients for examination, of which the number of patients coming for examination and consultation on skin aesthetics increased compared to before the pandemic.
