The morning food stalls at Phu Dong Market have 26 businesses with a variety of dishes. Each small, simple stall offers diners their own unique flavors, from a bowl of vermicelli soup with pork leg, hot beef noodle soup, a plate of crispy banh xeo, fragrant northern rolls, a box of green bean sticky rice, steaming corn sticky rice to sweet dishes such as bean sweet soup, eye-catching flan... In the chilly morning weather, the bustling laughter and warm greetings bring people closer together.
While smiling and greeting me with a warm invitation: "What would you like to eat, vermicelli with pork leg, beef vermicelli or Quang noodles, Northern pho", Ms. Nguyen Thi Duoc (No. 02 Truong Chinh, Pleiku ward), owner of Bon Nhat restaurant, quickly stirred the pot of broth.

Seeing me sniffing and praising the aroma, Mrs. Duoc said: “I usually wake up at 4am to prepare the goods, especially simmering pork leg and marrow bones to make them soft and sweet. To have a clear, lightly fragrant broth, I often add grilled shallots and crushed ginger. I have been in this profession for more than 30 years, selling since I was still in the temporary market. On a good day, I can sell more than 10kg of vermicelli, noodles, and pho of all kinds; the price is reasonable, currently at 30,000 VND/bowl. In the past few years, my daughter has helped me.”
Listening to our story, Mr. Le Ngoc Can (Group 6, Pleiku Ward), the customer sitting next to us, was enjoying his beef noodle soup while smiling. “I have been a regular customer of Bon Nhat restaurant for more than 10 years now. The breakfast food here is delicious and diverse, the owner is generous, so there are many regular customers,” Mr. Can shared.
Walking around the market, I stopped at the sticky rice stall of Mrs. Trinh Thi Hoa-Dang Van Tuan (Group 1, Pleiku Ward). After 7 o'clock, there were quite a lot of customers, some bought corn sticky rice, broken sticky rice, some bought green bean sticky rice, and salty sticky rice. Mrs. Hoa and her husband, one quickly put the sticky rice into boxes, the other quickly returned the goods but did not forget to chat with customers with a bright smile.

Seeing me ask carefully about each sticky rice dish, Ms. Ngo Thi Hue (Group 8, Pleiku Ward), a customer who bought sticky rice, smiled and said: "Is this your first time buying sticky rice from Mrs. Hoa? The sticky rice is very delicious, many people become regular customers after the first time buying. My family, whenever we want to eat sticky rice, we come here."
According to Mrs. Hoa, she and her husband have been selling sticky rice at Phu Dong market for nearly 20 years. Thanks to this stall, they have enough income to take care of their children. Although life is still difficult, they are satisfied with a harmonious marriage and a happy family.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Trinh Dinh Duc, a security officer (Hoa Lu-Phu Dong Market Management Board) said: He has worked at Hoa Lu-Phu Dong Market Management Board since 2013. In the past, wholesale traders at the temporary market in Group 7, Phu Dong Ward (now Pleiku Ward), since 2016, they have been relocated to this area. The stalls are neatly arranged, clean, the sellers serve enthusiastically and thoughtfully, the roads are clear, so many people often come here for breakfast. Having breakfast at the market not only helps people feel full but also gets more positive energy from the sincerity of the people of the mountain town.
