Middle Eastern countries strive to provide aid to the Gaza Strip

Việt NamViệt Nam08/04/2024

Türkiye's TRT television station reported on April 7 that the country has so far delivered about 40,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and that it is planning to send another aid shipment this April.

According to TRT, the aid has been delivered to Gaza via 13 planes and eight ships in coordination with the Turkish Red Crescent, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority and several NGOs. In addition, a 3,000-ton aid ship is scheduled to set sail shortly after the traditional Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr. The loading of the ship, which is carrying emergency aid including food, clothing, hygiene products, baby items and medical supplies, is underway at the southern Turkish port of Mersin.

On the same day, Jordan's state news agency Petra said the country had sent 105 trucks of food supplies to the Gaza Strip. This was Jordan's largest land aid convoy since the start of the conflict in Gaza.

Petra said the aid convoy was dispatched in coordination with the Jordanian army and the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization. "The aid, which includes essential food supplies such as rice and flour, has been prepared and started to be sent to our brothers in the Gaza Strip to arrive before Eid al-Fitr," said Hussein Al Shibli, secretary general of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization. Al Shibli noted that Jordan aims to double the amount of aid sent through the Kerem Shalom crossing and reach the largest possible number of civilians in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced on April 7 that his country would send 10 million liters of fuel to the Gaza Strip to support the Palestinian people. In the statement, al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq also agreed to receive wounded Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for medical treatment in the country's public and private hospitals. The lack of fuel has paralyzed hospitals, water supply systems, bakeries and relief work in the Palestinian enclave.

On the same day, the head of Egypt's State Information Service (SIS), Diaa Rashwan, said that Egypt has increased the number of humanitarian aid trucks entering the Gaza Strip, through the Rafah border crossing, to at least 300 per day since April 7. Mr. Rashwan added that Egypt has received 3,764 wounded and sick Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and 6,191 accompanying relatives, and provided 123 fully equipped ambulances to support medical work.
