After attending the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games on the evening of December 9 with about 10 members, the Cambodian sports delegation suddenly announced its withdrawal from the entire competition program of the Southeast Asian Games being held in Thailand .
Mr. Siriwat, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT), and Chairman of the 33rd SEA Games Council, said that Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian Olympic Committee (NOCC), called to inform about the withdrawal from the 33rd SEA Games. The official decision will be announced in writing by the Cambodian side on December 10.

Previously, Cambodia withdrew 8 sports, leaving only 12, with a force of 137 athletes and officials. However, these sports of Cambodia will also return home, not participating in the 33rd SEA Games.

After Cambodia withdrew, the 33rd SEA Games was once again in disarray regarding the organization plan, competition schedule and many other issues. The representative of the organizing committee of the host country Thailand has not yet commented on this matter.
However, in a recent press interview, Thana Chaiprasit, Secretary-General of the Thai Olympic Committee and Head of the Thai Sports Delegation, stated that if Cambodia were to suddenly withdraw from the 33rd SEA Games, the competitions would still proceed as planned instead of being canceled, even if only three teams remained in each event.
