How to prevent environmental pollution at bad levels in Hanoi and some neighboring provinces

According to the Northern Environmental Monitoring Center, Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the air pollution index (AQI) in some provinces and cities is at a very bad level, such as at station 556 Nguyen Van Cu, the index measured at 10:00 a.m. on December 2 was 162 (bad level); at the Polytechnic University station at Parabol gate, Giai Phong street, the index measured at 10:00 a.m. on December 2 was 120 (poor level).

Along with that, at the measuring station in the Hung Vuong street area, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province, the index measured at 9:00 a.m. on December 2 was at 148 (poor level); at the Tan Quang commune Cultural House measuring station, Hung Yen province, the index measured at 9:00 a.m. on December 2 was at 147 (poor level); at the old Bac Giang province inter-agency measuring station, the index measured at 10:00 a.m. on December 2 was at 153 (bad level); at the Hon La economic zone station, Quang Binh province, the index measured at 9:00 a.m. on December 2 was at 103 (poor level)....

In addition to Hanoi, neighboring provinces such as Hai Phong city and Ninh Binh also recorded AQI index at poor and bad levels.

Health experts recommend that during peak pollution days, people (especially the elderly, children, and people with respiratory diseases) should limit going out. If they must go out, they should wear masks that meet PM2.5 fine dust filtering standards and wear them properly (close to the bridge of the nose, not leaving any gaps).

At home, people should close doors, use air purifiers, regularly clean their nose and throat, and supplement nutrition to increase resistance.

According to the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, air pollution in Hanoi and neighboring provinces directly affects socio-economic activities and public health.

To proactively control, prevent and minimize the level of pollution and the adverse impacts of this pollution, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests the People's Committees of the provinces and cities of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh to focus on directing and drastically implementing the strengthening of street sanitation and implementing solutions to reduce road dust: directing environmental sanitation units and project owners of traffic infrastructure construction to immediately increase the frequency of street sweeping and dust extraction.

Provinces and cities strictly control construction and transportation activities that emit dust: Direct the Department of Construction, the Commune and Ward Police and local authorities to strengthen inspection and supervision of construction sites in the area; strictly manage industrial waste sources and activities with burning stages in craft villages; control the stable operation of exhaust gas treatment systems, ensure environmental technical standards; encourage reduction of operating capacity on days when air quality (VN_AQI) is at a bad level or higher, affecting people's health; strictly control the burning of waste and agricultural by-products:

Along with that, provinces and cities strengthen information and public health warnings: Direct the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Health to coordinate with local media and press agencies to continuously update information on air quality and monitor the VN_AQI index on the VNAir application.

The Air Pollution Index defines air quality on a scale of 0 to 500, classified into six levels with corresponding colors and health warnings. These levels include: Good (0-50, green), Moderate (51-100, yellow), Unhealthy for sensitive groups (101-150, orange), Unhealthy (151-200, red), Very unhealthy (201-300, purple) and Hazardous (over 300, brown).
