Can Duoc approves historical and cultural relic "Phuoc Dong Communal House"

On the afternoon of October 30, 2024, the People's Committee of Can Duoc district held a conference to approve the history of the historical-cultural relic "Dinh Phuoc Dong". Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of Long An Provincial Party Committee - Huynh Van Thanh attended.

Phuoc Dong Communal House is located in Phuoc Dong village, Loc Thanh Ha commune, Can Duoc district, Cho Lon province (now Phuoc Dong commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province). Phuoc Dong Communal House originally worshiped the local tutelary god. Later, the villagers worshiped two historical figures who had great contributions to the armed resistance movement against the French in the second half of the 19th century: Mr. Nguyen Van The (Commander The) and Mr. Nguyen Thuyet Xa (also known as Thong So).

With the spirit of “sacrificing oneself for the country”, the two men participated in the resistance against the French until their last breath. The local people admired their patriotism and indomitable spirit against foreign invaders. In 2005, their descendants and the village council moved their tablets to worship at Phuoc Dong communal house, to show gratitude and honor the two heroes who sacrificed themselves for the country.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of Long An Provincial Party Committee - Huynh Van Thanh highly appreciated the coordination of Can Duoc District People's Committee and Long An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as the Provincial Library Museum in compiling the content of the historical-cultural relic of Phuoc Dong communal house in a complete and elaborate manner. At the same time, he requested the Provincial Library Museum to review and compare it with official documents to avoid errors; the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to consider and evaluate the compliance with current legal regulations to soon complete the dossier to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to recognize Phuoc Dong communal house as a provincial historical-cultural relic.
