Need to exploit tourism at the source of Thac Ma river

In recent years, many tourist groups have come to explore and experience the wild beauty of the upper reaches of Thac Ma River, which flows through the two communes of Hai Chanh and Hai Son in Hai Lang District. The increasing interest of tourists in the upper reaches of Thac Ma River comes not only from the spectacular natural landscape, but also from the fresh, peaceful air and experiences associated with indigenous culture. Investing in the right direction, harmoniously combining nature conservation and service development will be the "key" to turning this place into an attractive and sustainable eco-tourism destination in the future.

Need to exploit tourism at the source of Thac Ma river

Interesting tourist spot

We went upstream of O Giang many times to the source of Thac Ma, on both banks were prosperous and peaceful villages of Hai Son and Hai Chanh communes, Hai Lang district. The boat went upstream for about 40 minutes and met the first waterfall, Thac Ha. The common point is that these waterfalls are shallow enough to touch the bottom of the boat, so we had to turn off the engine and use human power to push. On this exciting journey, we passed the next 7 shallow waterfalls including: Vung Tron, Thac Ca, Thac Qua, Voi Dai, Thac Chon, Thac Chuoi and finally Thac Lanh, this was our group's stop after more than an hour on the boat.

Thac Lanh is the furthest point that tourists stop at because it takes only a day to get there. Veterans who fought and worked here said: The revolutionaries were tested after overcoming a dangerous journey to reach Thac Lanh. If they had a strong determination to go to the war zone, they would go upstream and cross Thac Lanh. That is why there is a poem that says: "I vow to follow the Party to the end/ Cross Thac Lanh to the war zone".

The scenery here is truly fascinating, tourists can immerse themselves in the beautiful nature. This section of the river is not even knee-deep, visitors can bend down to scoop up handfuls of sparkling stones of many shapes, or take a handful of rice and put their hands in the water to witness hundreds of bold fish swarming around to catch the bait. On both sides of the bank, the canopy of the forest is cool and airy, and wild flowers compete to show off their colors...

Many visitors coming here have created a makeshift table placed right in the middle of the gently flowing river. Placing the dishes they brought on it, visitors can immerse themselves in the water, let the water caress their bodies, and enjoy a unique feast in the world...

By boat, from Thac Ma you can go everywhere.

The river people in Hai Son, Hai Chanh confirmed this to us, because in the past, they used boats to transport goods from Thac Ma to Quang Tri town market, Dong Ha market, and then to Phien Cam Lo market to buy and sell.

According to the locals, the source of Thac Ma flows into O Giang River and connects with Vinh Dinh River flowing to 2 estuaries Thuan An ( Hue City) and Viet Yen (Trieu Phong). O Giang River connects with O Lau River at Cau Nhi village, flows to the North, reaches Trung Don village through the new Mai Linh canal connecting with Cuu Vinh Dinh at Hoi Det intersection. Nhung River connects with Vinh Dinh River at Quy Thien, this branch flows to Trieu Phong, connects at Van Van and flows to Thuan An.

So to get to Dong Ha city, you just need to follow the O Giang river to Tam Giang lagoon, then follow a branch of the Vinh Dinh river to meet the Thach Han river through Quang Tri town and Trieu Phong district. Following the ocean current, you will meet the Hieu river at Gia Do junction and go up to Dong Ha market, Dong Ha city, then Phien Cam Lo market. So to conclude one thing, it is completely possible to open a tour to the source of Thac Ma, then connect with tours to Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri town, Dong Ha city, Cam Lo district and link to expand tours in the province.

In previous years, there were cultural and historical tours in Trieu Phong district including the following places: Sac Tu Tinh Quang Pagoda in Ai Tu town, Ghenh wharf, the ancient commercial port, and the Temple of Thai Pho Nguyen U Di in Trieu Giang, the special national relic of Quang Tri Citadel, and the memorial site of General Secretary Le Duan. At the end of the journey, visitors can enjoy 9 local specialties at Sai market such as: spring rolls, sausages, mussel porridge, banh chung, banh bot loc, banh beo...

In addition, there is an interesting tour of going down the Thach Han River by boat from Hai Le Commune, Quang Tri Town, stopping at the Flower Release Wharf on the South Bank of the Thach Han River. Tourists go ashore to visit the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Special Monument, attend the flower release ceremony, then continue on the boat to visit the Ghenh wharf, the ancient commercial port. Continue down the boat to visit the Memorial Site of General Secretary Le Duan, visit the Sai Market relic. Then participate in the exchange program, enjoy the traditional culinary art of Sai Market.

If the waterway tour of Thac Ma, Hai Lang district and the cultural and historical tour of Trieu Phong district are linked, the tours of Dong Ha city will create more tourist attractions, creating an important highlight for the tourism industry of Quang Tri province.

In the future, if developed in the right direction, the upstream of Thac Ma can completely become a “green gem” of Quang Tri tourism, attracting visitors to explore, relax and experience. This is not only an opportunity to promote the beautiful natural image of the province but also contributes to improving the lives of the people and preserving traditional culture.
