Typhoon Yagi in September 2024 knocked down and broke more than 25,000 trees in Hanoi . Hoan Kiem district alone had 700 trees, many of which were ancient trees, broken and felled. Among them was a 70-year-old rosewood tree, over 20m high, in the Co Tan flower garden, Trang Tien ward.

With regret and the perspective of a person who loves Hanoi and art, Tia-Thuy Nguyen (real name Nguyen Thu Thuy) - a fashion designer and visual artist, decided to breathe life into the remaining fallen tree trunk, creating an artwork about this rosewood tree called "Resurrection" as a message about life, death, and eternal reunion with the universe.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District assessed that the implementation of the artwork about the soapberry tree has brought a "new breath" to the urban landscape.

From the uprooted trunk of a rosewood tree, the artist created a 9-meter-high, 2-meter-diameter work, using 6 tons of stainless steel and quartz to recreate the tree's shape in a different shade. Over 6,000 hours of work, the welders sealed each joint, creating rough knots and grooves, simulating the natural, winding lines, while the foliage was made of thousands of shimmering steel leaves, dotted with colorful sparkling quartz "flowers".

Sharing about the work, Tia - Thuy Nguyen said, "Resurrection" is not only an artistic installation, but also a poetic journey of transformation. Although the acacia tree was struck down by a natural disaster, leaving only the trunk, in her eyes, it has not ended its life cycle.

At the ceremony, Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, Mr. Pham Tuan Long said that after Typhoon Yagi "swept" through, Hoan Kiem suffered a lot of damage to trees. "We and the people cleaned up the fallen trees, and we replanted the trees that could be replanted. We also took measures to deal with the trees that could not be restored. Regarding the fallen soapberry tree in Co Tan flower garden, we received the idea of Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy. After reviewing the restoration plan, we believe that the people will support and be satisfied with this project." The leader of Hoan Kiem District shared that the implementation of the artwork about soapberry trees has brought a "new breath" to the urban landscape.
