Grealish was unexpectedly slapped in the face by a MU fan at the Manchester derby on April 6. |
Alfie Holt is accused of slapping Grealish in the face as he walked off the pitch and towards the tunnel after the match. The incident occurred when Holt allegedly waved Grealish to come closer, before suddenly slapping the Man City midfielder in the face.
Grealish immediately reported the incident to club officials, and Greater Manchester Police later arrested a suspect. Police confirmed Holt has been charged with assault and will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court in July.
At the same time, MU decided to ban Holt from Old Trafford for life. In 2019, Grealish was also the victim of an attack when a Birmingham City fan ran onto the pitch and hit him from behind. The fan was later sentenced to 14 weeks in prison.
The incident has shocked the local community. Many of Holt's neighbors were surprised by his actions. One woman said: "I was shocked to hear that he was being prosecuted. Holt was a nice guy, had a girlfriend, and often helped his parents with housework. I couldn't imagine him doing something like this."
Another commented that Holt is a big United fan, but believes the incident was just a misunderstanding: "Maybe he was just joking around and things got pushed too far. He's not the type to cause trouble."
In addition, Phil Foden also became the target of insults from the home crowd, especially the song aimed at his mother. Coach Pep Guardiola was angry: "I don't understand why someone would insult Phil's mother. It's disrespectful and lacks class. They should be ashamed."
'Old man' Elanga soloed from midfield, causing sadness for MU. In the early morning of April 2, Nottingham Forest beat MU 1-0 in round 30 thanks to the only goal by Anthony Elanga.
