Termination of Then ferry operations across Lo River

Recently, the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province issued Document No. 118 dated January 7, 2025 on terminating the operation of Then ferry connecting Yen Thach commune, Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province with Tu Da commune, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province.

Then ferry connecting Yen Thach commune, Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province with Tu Da commune, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province has ceased operation.

After the official opening of Vinh Phu bridge connecting Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho provinces (August 30, 2023), people in the two provinces have basically formed the habit of traveling via Vinh Phu bridge instead of the traditional ferry, which has led to a sharp decrease in demand and traffic volume (mainly bicycles and motorbikes) through Then ferry terminal.

Based on the actual situation, while ensuring traffic safety for people and vehicles traveling between the two provinces, avoiding wasting the State budget to maintain the operation of the ineffective Then ferry terminal, the Department of Transport of Vinh Phuc province has coordinated with relevant departments, branches and localities to report to the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province to consider suspending the operation of the Then ferry terminal until the end of 2024 to assess the needs and necessity of maintaining the operation of the Then ferry terminal and has been approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Document No. 5525 dated July 22, 2024.

The inauguration of Vinh Phu Bridge has caused a sharp decrease in traffic through Then ferry.

By the end of 2024, the Department of Transport of Vinh Phuc province, the People's Committee of Song Lo district as well as the People's Committees of Tu Yen, Yen Thach, Nhu Thuy communes... did not receive any further recommendations or feedback on the temporary suspension of Then ferry terminal affecting people's travel needs.

In addition, all vehicles at Then ferry terminal have expired registration or are no longer in use. Therefore, it is necessary to terminate the operation of Then ferry terminal. The termination date is from January 7, 2025.
