In Thanh Vinh ward, the intersection between Ly Thuong Kiet and Le Loi streets has long been considered a “hot spot” for traffic safety. During rush hours, vehicles jostle and drive in different lanes, causing difficulties for residents and great pressure for the authorities when performing their regulatory duties.

Mr. Dinh Nho Tai - Vice Chairman of Thanh Vinh Ward People's Committee said: "This is a complicated intersection, located on National Highway 1A, so the number of vehicles passing through is very large. Whenever there is no traffic control force, traffic immediately becomes chaotic. The installation of a traffic light system is a legitimate wish, which has been awaited by the people for a long time. When the project is completed, it will certainly contribute to relieving frustration, ensuring safety and more convenience for travel."

According to the Vinh Area Construction Investment Project Management Board, the traffic light system at this intersection is a part of the project to upgrade and expand the extended Ly Thuong Kiet Street.

Currently, workers are rushing to complete the construction items from pole installation, connection to equipment calibration. The special feature of the system is the use of solar power. The panels are installed directly on the lamppost, capable of storing and supplying electricity for the entire signal operation. At the same time, the system is also connected to the grid to ensure continuous operation in all weather conditions.

Specifically, at this intersection, there will be 2 6.2m high poles extending 6m; 2 6.2m high poles extending 4m and 4 4.5m high poles arranged on the sidewalk. All poles are made of hot-dip galvanized steel, ensuring durability and safety. The system is also installed with a synchronous control cabinet and grounding to meet modern, stable and long-term operating standards.

Using solar energy is a step forward compared to conventional traffic lights. The outstanding advantage is saving operating costs, reducing the pressure on electricity consumption in the context of society encouraging the use of renewable energy.

In particular, even when there is a power outage, the traffic lights still operate normally thanks to the stored energy. This helps to ensure uninterrupted traffic regulation, avoiding the recurrence of chaos when the system suddenly stops working. This is also a highlight showing innovation in investment in traffic infrastructure, linking development with sustainable and environmentally friendly criteria.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien - Deputy Head of Vinh Area Construction Investment Project Management Board said: Currently, the unit is directing workers to speed up the installation progress and put the traffic light system at this intersection into operation in the last days of September 2025.

The installation of traffic lights at the Ly Thuong Kiet – Le Loi intersection not only solves the immediate traffic congestion but also raises people’s awareness of obeying the law. With the advantage of using renewable energy, this system contributes to modernizing infrastructure, saving electricity and creating a civilized, safe and sustainable urban image.
