Orphaned by both parents, Nguyen Van Xuan, born in 2005, is living with his uncle in a near-poor household in Quang Minh village (My Hung commune, Thanh Oai district). When he reaches working age, Xuan wishes to have a motorbike as a means of earning a living and stabilizing his life. After receiving the family's application, the report of the Fatherland Front Committee of My Hung commune and the actual survey process, at the end of January, the Standing Committee of the Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Oai district awarded Xuan a budget to buy a means of production, a motorbike worth 20 million VND.
Also in the first days of the new year 2024, prolonged cold rain caused the roof of the house of Mr. Tran Dinh Sau's family, a near-poor household in Team 4, Lac Thi village (Ngoc Hoi commune, Thanh Tri district) to collapse. As soon as he received the information, Chairman of the Thanh Tri District Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Huy Chuong and local representatives visited and promptly advised the Commune Party Committee to coordinate with the Commune "For the Poor" Fund Mobilization Committee to allocate 3 million VND to support the family. The Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of Ngoc Hoi commune directed the Village Front Work Committee to join hands to contribute efforts and labor to repair the roof of Mr. Sau's family's house to stabilize their lives.
Through many different methods, over the past years, the Fatherland Front at all levels in the city has been paying much attention to poor households, near-poor households, and households in especially difficult circumstances in the area.
In Thuong Tin district, at the beginning of 2024, 370 poor households and households in difficult circumstances received Tet gifts. Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Thuong Tin district Le Tuan Dung said: In addition to allocating funds from the district, the Fatherland Front Committee and departments, branches and organizations of the district also actively called for support from businesses and philanthropists to join hands to help the poor and people in difficult circumstances receive timely and meaningful encouragement.
In My Duc district, the district Fatherland Front Committee donated 10 Great Unity houses to poor and near-poor households, each house worth 50 million VND from the district's "For the Poor" Fund. Chairman of the My Duc district Fatherland Front Committee Trinh Xuan Huong said: With this concern, we hope that the families will soon overcome difficulties, rise up, and stabilize their lives. We also thank the sponsors who have accompanied My Duc district to help poor and near-poor households reduce difficulties in life.
Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee Dang Thi Phuong Hoa said that in recent years, many poor people have been helped to escape poverty, many people in difficulty have been supported. However, according to a survey, Hanoi still has 16,525 poor households, near-poor households, and many families in difficult circumstances. In order to work with the Party Committee, the government, and functional agencies to support poor and disadvantaged households to escape poverty, the Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee will continue to guide the Fatherland Front at all levels to coordinate with the government, sectors, and organizations to develop poverty reduction plans for each locality.
“The Front will focus on reviewing poor households, analyzing the causes, proposing solutions and specific forms of support to help poor households. Encouraging and motivating poor households and families in difficult circumstances to promote their internal strength and proactively rise out of poverty. Continuing to mobilize social resources to help the poor escape poverty sustainably,” said Ms. Hoa.
In particular, in 2024, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, the People's Committee and the Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi will support the construction and repair of Great Unity houses for poor and near-poor households in the area. It is expected that the city will support 890 poor and near-poor households to build and repair houses with a support level of 100 million VND/new house, 60 million VND/repaired house, with a total support level of over 131.42 billion VND. Of which, the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels will support 36.92 billion VND, and the Hanoi City budget will support 94.5 billion VND. With this approach, the People's Committee and the Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi strive that by the end of 2024, the entire city will have no more poor or near-poor households with degraded houses that are not supported or assisted.
With many forms of support and assistance for the poor, the Hanoi City Fatherland Front at all levels is making efforts with the Party Committee, government, businesses, and philanthropists to care for and help the poor and people in difficult circumstances to have the motivation to improve their lives.
