Join the fight
On the last Sunday before the April 30 and May 1 holidays, leaders and staff of the Department of Population, Children and Social Evils Prevention and Control, the Center for Social Work and the Hanoi Children's Support Fund (Hanoi Department of Health ), and doctors from the Hanoi Heart Hospital were present at the Hanoi Social Support Center No. 3 (106 Nguyen Hoang Street, Nam Tu Liem District) to organize gift giving and screening for children, affirming the solidarity of society in caring for children in difficult and special circumstances.
Receiving this attention, Director of Social Protection Center No. 3 Tran Thi Hai was moved to say: “Our center currently has 3 facilities, taking care of 200 lonely elderly people and orphaned children with no place to rely on. Of which, the facility at 106 Nguyen Hoang Street currently specializes in caring for and nurturing children. Screening and early detection of diseases in children is very important. In 2021, there was a case of a child who was examined and found to have congenital heart disease, received timely surgery, and is now developing very well.”
Having visited many social protection centers to conduct screening, health check-ups, and early intervention for children with congenital heart disease, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Sinh Hien, Director of Hanoi Heart Hospital, understands the value of social activities that those working in child protection have been carrying out.
Dr. Nguyen Sinh Hien shared: “With current human and technical resources, our hospital can intervene in complex heart diseases, even in 1-year-old children. Early detection of diseases for early intervention will help young children have the opportunity to recover with maximum efficiency. With the participation of those working in social protection, children in special circumstances will be given the opportunity to develop comprehensively and become good citizens of society. That is the motivation for us to do our duty, with all our heart and responsibility.”
Create conditions for children to develop comprehensively
After the process of restructuring and streamlining the apparatus, the Capital Health Sector received additional areas of social protection and prevention and control of social evils (social assistance, social pensions, social work, work for the elderly, work for the disabled and other social assistance...) from the former Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs. This created conditions for closer coordination in social protection work, including child protection.
Deputy Head of the Department of Population, Children and Prevention of Social Evils Dang Ngoc Ha said: “The work of screening and giving gifts to groups of children living in social assistance facilities, children studying and living ineducational facilities, children being treated at medical facilities... all have the participation of hospitals, protection centers, and social work centers under the Department of Health, in a synchronous and unified manner. All of this aims to continue to effectively implement policies and programs for health care for children with disabilities, children with serious illnesses, and children with illnesses requiring long-term treatment according to regulations...”.
Director of the Hanoi Center for Social Work and Children's Protection Fund Nguyen Van Trieu expressed: "The coordination between the center and hospitals, medical facilities and units related to child protection has been well implemented for many years, and now it is even more favorable and closer when they are in the social protection system of the health sector. For abandoned, orphaned, homeless children - who have to suffer early trauma, we always determine that we must strive to mobilize all resources, especially socialized resources for support activities."
Currently, the Center for Social Work and the Hanoi Children's Fund have been presiding over and coordinating with the Hanoi Heart Hospital, the Xanh Pon General Hospital, and the Medical Centers of districts, towns, and cities to organize screening for children with motor disabilities, and screening for 12,000 children with suspected signs of congenital heart disease in the community. The desire of social workers is that through meaningful activities, they will ensure that children live in a safe, healthy, and friendly environment, and are given the conditions to develop comprehensively, contributing to ensuring social security in the city and realizing goals for children.
