In this year's election season, North Carolina is considered one of the 7 key battleground states with 16 electoral votes, equal to Georgia and second only to Pennsylvania (18 electoral votes). The remaining battleground states are Wisconsin (10 electoral votes), Arizona (11 electoral votes), Michigan (15 electoral votes) and Nevada (6 electoral votes).

'Fierce battlefield'

According to the latest survey results released by High Point University on October 3, both former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, received 48% support from potential voters in North Carolina, according to the NY Post.

However, according to national polls, Ms. Harris has a slight advantage among registered voters, with 48% support, leading former President Trump by 2 percentage points. The issues that North Carolina voters care about the most include: the economy , immigration, social security and abortion rights.

In the final stages of the White House race, the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign team is stepping up efforts to attract undecided Republican voters.

Some Republicans who have publicly supported Vice President Harris so far include notable faces such as former Vice President Dick Cheney, two former Representatives Liz Cheney (Wyoming) and Adam Kinzinger (Illinois), former Senator Jeff Flake (Arizona), former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan...

On October 3, Liz Cheney even joined Vice President Harris’ campaign in Ripon, Wisconsin, the birthplace of the Republican Party. Harris used her joint appearance with Cheney to demonstrate the spirit of bipartisanship.

The location of the rally was also seen as a strategic move by Harris. The city of Ripon, located between Madison and Green Bay, is home to a schoolhouse designated as a national historic landmark for hosting the first meetings that paved the way for the founding of the Republican Party in 1854.

Pressure build up

With just one month left before the election, observers say the White House is facing three challenges that could threaten Vice President Harris' hopes.

One is the long-running Middle East conflict involving military moves between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.

Second, inflationary pressures are mounting due to a strike by nearly 50,000 International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) dockworkers at ports on the East and Gulf Coasts that is blocking the flow of U.S. imports and exports.

Third is the political pressure caused by Hurricane Helene causing severe flooding, killing 189 people and leaving many missing in many localities, including areas of the two battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina.

Meanwhile, on the same day, US media reported that prosecutors released a 165-page dossier on the lawsuit against former President Donald Trump seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 federal election.

This is the fullest picture yet of the alleged behavior of the 45th boss in the White House and is likely to affect the psychology of potential voters.

According to witnesses recorded in the dossier, Mr. Trump was “increasingly desperate” and “attacked every stage of the election process with lies” when he realized he was about to lose the presidency.

In response to the move, former President Trump and his legal team criticized federal prosecutors for trying to undermine or control the way his team presented its defense in the case.

Former President Trump's campaign team said the move was part of a larger political strategy initiated by the Democratic Party to use the US Department of Justice against him, accusing the Democrats of using legal actions to maintain their political power.
