On September 19, 2025, the Minister of Education and Training issued Circular 20/2025/TT-BGDDT on the Program of preparatory university training subjects.
This Circular takes effect from November 4, 2025 and replaces Circular No. 48/2012/TT-BGDDT dated December 11, 2012 of the Minister of Education and Training promulgating detailed outlines of 11 university preparatory subjects.
According to Circular 20/2025/TT-BGDDT, pre-university students are provided with cultural knowledge in three subjects according to the subject combination used for admission to pre-university schools (subject 1, subject 2, subject 3 among the subjects of Mathematics, Literature, English, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology);
Pre-university students are trained in health and participate in educational activities. Based on the actual situation of the school and the learning and living needs of students, the Principal of the pre-university school selects appropriate health training content and educational activities;
University preparatory schools proactively develop teaching plans according to the University preparatory training program issued by the Ministry of Education and Training in accordance with the current general education program.
The time frame for subject groups that do not include English and Information Technology is specified as follows:

For the subject combination including both Math and Literature, Math study time is 8 periods/week, Literature study time is 7 periods/week.
The duration of the preparatory training is one academic year. The principal of the preparatory school decides on the academic year plan to ensure 28 weeks of actual study, with the remaining time for review, final exams and other activities.
The university preparatory training program in the subjects: Economic and Legal Education, Biology, Geography, Physics, History, English, Mathematics, Technology, Chemistry, Literature, and Information Technology, is issued with this Circular.
