Proactively control epidemics and protect public health

Identifying disease prevention as a key task, in recent times, Phu Tan Regional Medical Center has proactively implemented many effective solutions for monitoring, handling and communicating disease prevention. Thanks to that, the epidemic situation in the area has been well controlled, preventing outbreaks, contributing to protecting public health.

In order to proactively control the epidemic, in the first months of 2025, Phu Tan Regional Medical Center has synchronously deployed many measures to prevent and control epidemics, preventing large outbreaks in the community. In the context of many infectious diseases with the risk of increasing, the Center still maintains its role on the front line, strictly controlling the epidemic situation and ensuring the health safety of the people.

According to the report, in the first 9 months of 2025, the area recorded 156 dengue fever outbreaks, an increase of 23 outbreaks compared to the same period last year. However, all were handled promptly, in accordance with the professional procedures of the Ministry of Health . The center regularly maintained monitoring activities, sprayed chemicals to kill mosquitoes, organized the first and second round of mosquito larvae eradication campaigns, and achieved the planned targets. The model of raising guppies to kill mosquito larvae continued to be replicated in communes, showing clear effectiveness in limiting the development of disease-transmitting mosquitoes. Thanks to the initiative in disease prevention, there were no large outbreaks or deaths due to dengue fever in the area.

Other infectious diseases such as hand, foot and mouth disease, measles, diarrhea, and rabies are regularly monitored. Notably, although 259 measles cases were recorded this year, an increase of 25 cases compared to the same period last year, the cases were detected early and handled properly, preventing the spread. The center has increased propaganda to each household, advising people to proactively practice personal hygiene and fully vaccinate children and pregnant women.

In addition, the expanded immunization work has been focused on, contributing to strengthening community immunity. Phu Tan Regional Medical Center has simultaneously deployed periodic immunization programs and vaccination campaigns in all communes. As a result, the full vaccination rate for children reached 71.26%, the measles-rubella vaccination rate reached 74.88%, the third dose of Japanese encephalitis vaccine reached 71.76% and pregnant women received tetanus vaccination reached 77.87%. In particular, the measles-rubella vaccination campaign for children aged 1-10 years old reached 96.58%, demonstrating great efforts in covering the entire population with vaccines, ensuring sustainable community immunity.

Vaccination safety is a top priority, all vaccination sites follow the correct procedures and are closely monitored by the Center. In addition, the Center also promotes health education and communication, instructing people to understand correctly and fully the benefits of vaccination, contributing to raising awareness of proactive disease prevention.

Dr. Hong Mung Hai, Deputy Director of Phu Tan Regional Medical Center, said: With the characteristics of a coastal area and a scattered population, Phu Tan always has the potential risk of infectious diseases. Phu Tan Regional Medical Center maintains an epidemiological surveillance network to each commune, updates and reports cases daily, ensuring quick handling when there are unusual signs. Disease prevention programs such as malaria, diarrhea, cholera, hand, foot and mouth disease, Zika and rabies are all maintained and monitored regularly.

Not only focusing on preventing endemic diseases, the Center also maintains many programs to prevent chronic diseases with infectious factors such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, leprosy and dermatological diseases. In the first 9 months of the year, the Center recorded 5 new HIV infections, a decrease compared to the same period; regularly manages and treats 99 patients using ARV.

The TB prevention program was maintained with 353 sputum tests, timely detection and treatment management. In particular, testing and treatment of latent TB was widely deployed, contributing to preventing the source of infection in the community. Regular house visits and monitoring activities in communes and villages were carried out, combined with propaganda to help people proactively detect and treat early.

Doctor Hong Mung Hai, Deputy Director of Phu Tan Regional Medical Center shared: Thanks to the strong leadership and sense of responsibility of the staff, civil servants and public employees, the work of preventing infectious diseases in Phu Tan has achieved many positive results, contributing to maintaining epidemic safety in the area.

In the coming time, Phu Tan Regional Medical Center will continue to promote communication to change behavior, strengthen epidemiological surveillance, early detection and thorough handling of outbreaks, while maintaining the effectiveness of the expanded vaccination program, aiming to build a healthy community, free of dangerous epidemics, making an important contribution to the cause of caring for and protecting people's health.
