The Department of Health has recently issued a document requesting the Department of Education and Training to direct its affiliated units to ensure the prevention of conjunctivitis in educational institutions.
Accordingly, the Department of Health requests that units proactively implement measures to prevent the spread of viral conjunctivitis (commonly caused by Adenovirus) such as: frequently washing hands with soap and clean water; avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth; not sharing personal items (eye drops, towels, eyeglasses, masks, etc.); and cleaning eyes, nose, and throat daily with saline solution and common eye and nose drops.

At the same time, use soap or common disinfectants to sanitize the patient's belongings and items; limit contact with people who have or are suspected of having conjunctivitis.
People with symptoms of conjunctivitis should go to a medical facility for examination, consultation, and timely treatment. They should not self-treat without guidance from a healthcare professional to avoid serious complications.
When students exhibit symptoms such as mild fever, fatigue, sore throat, sticky discharge making it difficult to open their eyes, swollen lymph nodes in front of the ears and under the jaw, etc., they should be immediately taken to a medical facility for examination, consultation, and timely treatment. If necessary, the doctor will instruct the child to stay home from school to prevent the spread of the disease, and will inform the homeroom teacher of the examination results.
In the event of detecting a case of conjunctivitis in the classroom, use soap or common disinfectants to disinfect students' belongings and desks; notify the local health station of the case for coordinated handling. Intensify communication efforts on preventing and controlling conjunctivitis through various means for teachers, school staff, students, and parents. Communicate with parents the message that students with conjunctivitis who are advised to stay home from school should not be allowed to attend school.
