President Luong Cuong holds online talks with Lao General Secretary and President

During an online meeting on November 8, President Luong Cuong and Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely.

According to VNA, General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his belief that President Luong Cuong and other senior leaders will lead Vietnam to further development, successfully achieve the set goals, and turn Vietnam into a developed industrial country with high income.

The Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciated the traditional friendship and close ties between the Lao and Vietnamese Parties, States and people. He thanked Vietnam for its valuable assistance to Laos over the past time in the spirit of “biting a grain of rice in half, breaking a piece of vegetable in half”; especially, for its multifaceted support for Laos to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair and Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2024.

The Lao General Secretary and President affirmed that he will closely coordinate with President Luong Cuong to implement high-level agreements reached between the two countries, contributing to further promoting the special close relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong thanked General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith for being the first foreign leader to send a congratulatory letter and hold an online meeting right after the President was elected to his new position. He affirmed that in his new position, he will continue to work closely with the Lao General Secretary and President and other senior Lao leaders to foster the great relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders informed each other about the situation in each country; agreed to continue to pay close attention and direct relevant agencies of both sides to focus on effectively implementing the results of the meeting between the two Politburoes and the recent high-level agreements reached. Along with that, they actively prepare well for the upcoming 47th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the two countries; speed up the removal of difficulties and obstacles of a number of key projects to develop economic cooperation between the two countries more sustainably and effectively.

The two leaders also agreed to continue promoting propaganda and education about the traditional history of the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, increase timely information sharing, and closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums.

In October 2024, on the occasion of Politburo member and Permanent Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Luong Cuong being elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith sent a congratulatory letter.

Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that Mr. Luong Cuong's election to the position of President demonstrates the trust and appreciation of the Party, State and people of Vietnam. The Lao General Secretary and President believes that President Luong Cuong, together with the Party and State leaders, will lead the country and people of our brotherly Vietnam to continue to gain new and greater achievements in the renewal process.

The Lao General Secretary and President wishes to cooperate closely with President Luong Cuong to continue to contribute to fostering the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, the fine tradition between the Parties, States and people of the two countries to increasingly develop and bear fruit, bringing practical benefits to the people as well as for peace, stability and cooperation for development in the region and the world.
