Pleased to meet for the first time former Vietnam - Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro, a close friend of the Vietnamese people, the President highly appreciated and sincerely thanked him for his active and tireless contributions to the Vietnam - Japan friendship over the past nearly 40 years.
The President assessed that after more than one year of implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, the Vietnam-Japan relationship continues to develop; political trust has been consolidated, economic cooperation is the main pillar, educational and health cooperation... has become more in-depth, substantive and effective; cooperation between localities, cultural and people-to-people exchanges have become increasingly profound.
The President affirmed that the success of the Vietnam-Japan relationship today is thanks to the efforts and cultivation of generations of leaders of the two countries, including the great contributions of Mr. Sugi Ryotaro himself.
Expressing his sincere thanks to the President for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Sugi Ryotaro said that after nearly 40 years of being attached to Vietnam, he always has very special feelings for the country and people of Vietnam and has always made tireless efforts to continue to foster and strengthen the friendly relationship between the two nations.
Mr. Sugi Ryotaro informed the President about the programs and projects to support Vietnamese people in mountainous, remote and disadvantaged areas, including the project to build and repair dormitories for a primary and secondary school in Yen Bai province with the hope that upon completion, students will have a better learning environment. In addition, he also supported Nghia Lo General Hospital in free examination and screening programs for people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas with liver-related diseases.
The former Vietnam - Japan Special Ambassador also proposed the idea of establishing an orchestra for visually impaired children at Nguyen Dinh Chieu School, a school he has supported for the past 30 years because of his love for children.
Appreciating Vietnam's long-standing cultural traditions and unique landscapes, Mr. Sugi Ryotaro wishes to contribute to further promoting cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries.

Expressing his emotion at Mr. Sugi Ryotaro's noble sentiments and actions in projects supporting Vietnam in general and Vietnamese children in particular, the President affirmed that the Vietnamese State always supports and creates favorable conditions for him to implement charity programs and projects in Vietnam as well as turn his noble ideas into reality.
The President affirmed that many Vietnamese people, although they have not met him, have known and been moved by the noble deeds of former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro.
The President highly appreciated Mr. Ryotaro's projects on protecting public health in remote areas and initiatives to promote Vietnamese tourism in Japan; and expressed his gratitude for Mr. Sugi Ryotaro's generosity towards humanitarian support activities in Vietnam.
Believing that the Vietnam-Japan friendship and cooperation still has much room for development, the President hoped that in the coming time, Mr. Sugi Ryotaro would continue to devote much affection and effort to contributing to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Japan to develop substantially and effectively in all fields; at the same time, continue to contribute to expanding traditional and modern cultural exchange programs between Vietnam and Japan; promote the image of Japan in Vietnam, thereby deepening the understanding between the people of the two countries - an important foundation to bring the Vietnam-Japan relationship to a new height.
