At a regular press conference this afternoon, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his wife, and Angolan President João Manuel Goncalves Lourenco and his wife, President Luong Cuong and his wife will pay a state visit to Egypt and Angola from August 3-9.

The State visit of President Luong Cuong takes place in the context of the very good development of Vietnam - Egypt and Vietnam - Angola relations.

For Egypt, this is the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader in 7 years. In terms of politics and diplomacy, Vietnam and Egypt have a long-standing and especially close historical relationship since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1963. The two countries actively supported each other in the national liberation resistance war as well as at international organizations and multilateral forums.

In terms of economics, trade and investment, Egypt is an important market for Vietnam in the region. Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 will reach 541.36 million USD, the highest in North Africa.

Egypt currently has 22 investment projects registered in Vietnam with a total capital of about 2.87 million USD. The two sides have signed cooperation agreements between Hanoi - Cairo (July 2023), Ninh Binh - Luxor (August 2018).

For Angola, this is the first state visit by a Vietnamese head of state to Angola in 17 years.

In terms of politics and diplomacy, the two Parties and countries have a loyal comradely relationship, actively supporting and encouraging each other in the period of fighting against colonialism, imperialism, national liberation and in the current cause of national construction and defense. The two countries regularly exchange delegations, have high-level contacts, and support each other at multilateral forums.

Vietnam and Angola have held seven meetings of the Intergovernmental Committee. Economic, investment and trade cooperation between the two countries has seen positive changes in recent times, with trade turnover in 2024 reaching nearly 250 million USD.

Recently, Vietnamese enterprises have been very interested in the Angolan market in the fields of oil and gas, hydropower, agriculture, forestry and mining.

Angola is currently home to the largest Vietnamese community in Africa with about 6,000 people, formed in the 1980s with a core of medical and educational experts.

The spokesperson said that President Luong Cuong is expected to have important talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco; meet with senior leaders of Egypt and Angola; meet with embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the two countries and have other important foreign affairs activities.
