President Vo Van Thuong visits the Embassy and meets with representatives of generations of Vietnamese people in Japan.

During his official visit to Japan, on the morning of November 27 (local time),President Vo Van Thuong visited and talked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and met with intellectuals representing generations of Vietnamese people in Japan.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, Japanese political parties and sectors attach great importance to relations with Vietnam. This is the best period of Vietnam-Japan relations ever. Vietnam and Japan are two economies that complement and support each other based on the needs, potentials and characteristics of each side. In recent times, the Embassy has focused on many measures to promote economic cooperation between the two countries, especially connecting and cooperating with localities.

Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu said that the good news is that Japanese investors have great confidence in Vietnam's investment environment. The areas in which Japanese enterprises are strong are innovation, science and technology, digital transformation, and green economy. These are also areas in which Vietnam has demand and can cooperate in the direction of joint research and development. The Ambassador said that the number of young Vietnamese intellectuals in Japan is increasing, actively contributing to the locality and all want to contribute to their homeland and country, serving as a bridge to promote relations between the two countries.

Currently, Japan has a great demand for labor and actively cooperates with Vietnam in this field. The Vietnamese community in Japan has increased rapidly in recent times, currently reaching about 520,000 people. The Embassy strives to fulfill its citizen protection duties.

Speaking at the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan for actively carrying out the tasks assigned by the Party and State and achieving important results. Emphasizing that the Vietnam-Japan relationship has a very high political depth, the President said that the leaders of the two countries both wish to elevate the bilateral relationship, for the sustainable development of the two countries and the interests of the two peoples.

In that spirit, the President asked the Embassy to effectively implement the policies and agreements between the two countries, including those reached during this visit. In particular, it is necessary to continue to promote Vietnam’s deeper participation and become a “stronghold” in Japan’s production chain; urge Japan to continue providing ODA support to Vietnam; and promote cooperation in science and technology, education and training, national defense, security and other fields.

Believing that the Vietnamese people always love and have good feelings for the Japanese people and vice versa, the President asked the Embassy to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, especially promoting the role of nearly 100 pairs of localities establishing cooperative relations. The President also asked the Embassy to perform well its citizen protection duties.

* On this occasion, the President met and talked with scientists, intellectuals, and representatives of generations of Vietnamese people who have made many contributions to and fostered the Vietnam - Japan relationship.

Intellectuals and delegates representing various sectors were delighted to meet President Vo Van Thuong; shared their efforts and attempts to achieve achievements in research, study, work, and contributions to the local community, which were recognized and respected by the Japanese State.

Professor Tran Van Tho, Honorary Professor of Waseda University, said that the Japanese people love and believe in the potential of people and cooperation with Vietnam and hope that after this visit by the President, the future relationship between Vietnam and Japan will develop more strongly. With the goal of Vietnam becoming a high-income country by 2045, Professor Tran Van Tho said that promoting cooperation with Japan will also contribute to achieving this goal, especially cooperation in science and technology, education and training; improving the quality of state governance; improving the capacity of enterprises, etc.

Associate Professor Le Thi Thanh Thuy, who has worked in Japan for 21 years and conducted research in the medical field at Osaka Metropolitan University, said that she has organized training for many PhDs and masters and connected many scholarships for Vietnamese students and researchers to study and research in Japan. Associate Professor Le Thi Thanh Thuy is also very active in promoting cooperation activities between Osaka Metropolitan University and universities and localities in Vietnam.

Associate Professor Ho Anh Van, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, said that in Japan there are currently over 40 Vietnamese professors and associate professors working at universities. The Associate Professor hopes that more Vietnamese students will study in Japan and that Vietnamese experts in Japan will make efforts to participate in training high-quality human resources for Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong expressed his joy and pride in the achievements that intellectuals and representatives of Vietnamese communities in Japan have contributed to the host country as well as to the Vietnam-Japan relationship; at the same time, he said that these successes were achieved thanks to their spirit, will and perseverance in the context of living and studying far from their homeland and facing many difficulties. The contributions of outstanding Vietnamese intellectuals have actively supported the Vietnamese community in Japan and strengthened the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The President affirmed that the great achievements of historical significance after nearly 40 years of national renovation as well as the good results of the Vietnam-Japan relationship over the past 50 years have been contributed by the Vietnamese community in Japan, especially Vietnamese intellectuals. Referring to the goal of Vietnam becoming a developed country with high income by 2045, the President said that to achieve that goal, great efforts are needed from the entire political system and Vietnamese people around the world; including Vietnamese intellectuals in Japan.

Emphasizing the nation's tradition, the President stated that the Party and State always respect talented people and intellectuals, considering them a key force with decisive significance for the country to have strong and rapid development, contributing to realizing the set goals.

The President welcomed leading Vietnamese scientists at Japanese universities who have trained graduate students and provided scholarships for Vietnamese students, thereby contributing to training high-quality human resources for the country.

The President agreed with the view that Vietnamese people in Japan consider Japan as home and Vietnam as their homeland, and continue to make efforts to contribute to the local community while contributing to the relationship between the two countries.

President Vo Van Thuong hopes that young Vietnamese people in Japan will continue the success of previous generations, continue to reap many great achievements in their fields of work; contribute to the host country and the relationship between the two countries. In particular, build the trust of the Japanese people, affirm the capacity, qualifications and qualities of Vietnamese people in Japan. That is the most solid foundation to maintain and promote the bilateral relationship.
