Digital transformation and green transformation are a natural journey, "as natural as breathing."

If we liken technology to the breath that helps businesses survive and thrive in the digital age, then the digital transformation of a business is a journey that can only end when that business ceases to exist, shutting down all production and business activities.

Digital transformation is one of the two most important transformations of the first half of the 21st century, and also a major driver of economic growth. According to calculations by the Ministry of Information and Communications , by 2023, the digital economy had contributed 16.5% to GDP, with a growth rate of 20% per year.

Speaking at the Vietnam-Asia Digital Transformation Summit 2024, themed "Digital Transformation, Green Transformation - Developing the Digital Economy ," held in Hanoi from May 28-29, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the crucial role of digital transformation and green transformation.

According to the Minister, digital transformation and green transformation are "twins" that go hand in hand, supporting each other and contributing to ensuring a nation's rapid and sustainable development.

Digital transformation for green transformation

At the Forum, Mr. Lam Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the VINASA Committee for Digital Transformation of Enterprises, stated that the digital transformation process of enterprises is a journey without an end point, only ending when the enterprise ceases to exist and closes all production and business activities. Currently, many governments , international organizations, and consulting firms recognize that digital transformation and economic transformation are dual goals that cannot be separated.

Meanwhile, businesses have many other goals to achieve, such as improving productivity, efficiency, and the break-even point of investment. Mr. Quang Nam said that businesses can "focus their efforts" on digital transformation as a better basis for export transformation.

However, because businesses are part of the supply chain, implementing green building (GR) will present challenges, such as the fact that all carbon footprint indicators are reflected in the output product. Therefore, even if the factory is "green" and uses clean energy, if the supply source is not "green," the output product cannot meet the criteria. Thus, from a management perspective, transparency in the supply chain is a prerequisite for GR.

To assess the effectiveness of digital transformation, businesses need digital technology in all stages, from measurement and declaration to classification and inspection.

Need for digital transformation and digital transformation consulting

Within the framework of the event, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Bac, Director of the Institute for Socio-Economic Research and Development of Bac Ninh province, noted that a trend of investment capital shifting is occurring, focusing on the Red River Delta and the Southern key economic region. However, this capital flow is also shifting within localities themselves.

The reason is that investor demand varies in each specific area, usually revolving around three main needs: seeking strategic assets (including essential infrastructure such as roads, schools, hospitals, bridges, ports, etc.); low costs (including land and labor); and high value-added innovation incentives. Therefore, digital transformation and sustainable development are necessary to enhance the competitiveness of localities.

To bring digital transformation products and services to the market, it is essential to have experts and consultants to apply new technologies in factories and production facilities.

Dr. Bac stated that Bac Ninh ranks first according to the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (now the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union) in terms of the index of businesses least affected by climate change, and fourth nationwide according to Decision No. 01 of the Prime Minister on the number of businesses required to conduct greenhouse gas emissions inventories. This represents a potential market for digital transformation consultants and smart management applications.

Also at this Forum, speakers from FPT Software, Liferay, and VTI Group presented several technical solutions to effectively support businesses in digital transformation and digital transformation, such as AI applications in industrial production, DXP, MES, PiSafe, etc.
