Digital transformation and green transformation are natural journeys "like breathing"

Việt NamViệt Nam31/05/2024

If technology is likened to the breath that helps businesses survive and develop in the digital age, then the digital transformation process of a business is a journey that can only end when the business ceases to exist and closes all production and business activities.

Digital transformation is one of the two most important transformations of the first half of the 21st century, and is also the main driver of economic growth. According to calculations by the Ministry of Information and Communications , by 2023, the digital economy will contribute 16.5% of GDP, with a growth rate of 20%/year.

Speaking at the Vietnam - Asia Digital Transformation Summit 2024, with the theme "Digital Transformation, Green Transformation - Digital Economy Development" held in Hanoi from May 28-29, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the important role of digital transformation and green transformation.

According to the Minister, digital transformation (DXT) and green transformation (GRT) are "twins" that go together, support each other, and contribute to ensuring a country's rapid and sustainable development.

Digital transformation for green transformation

At the Forum, Mr. Lam Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the VINASA Enterprise Digital Transformation Committee, said that the digital transformation process of an enterprise is a journey without an end point, which can only end when the enterprise ceases to exist and closes all production and business activities. Currently, many governments , international organizations, and consulting units believe that digital transformation and digital transformation are dual goals that cannot be separated from each other.

Meanwhile, businesses have many other goals to achieve, such as improving productivity, efficiency, and investment break-even ratio. Mr. Quang Nam said that businesses can "focus" on digital transformation as a better digital transformation foundation.

However, because businesses are in the supply chain, when implementing CSR, they will face challenges, such as the fact that all carbon footprints are reflected in the output products, so even if the factory is “green” and uses clean energy, but the supply source is not “green”, it will not be possible to have output products that meet the criteria. Therefore, from a management perspective, supply chain transparency is a prerequisite for CSR.

In order to evaluate the effectiveness of CDX, businesses need digital technology in all stages, from measurement, declaration, to classification and inspection.

Consulting needs for CDS, CDX

During the event, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Bac, Director of the Institute for Socio-Economic Research and Development of Bac Ninh province, commented that the trend of shifting investment capital flows is taking place, focusing on the Red River Delta and the Southern key economic region. However, there is also a shift in capital sources between localities.

The reason is that investors' needs are different in each specific area, often revolving around 3 major needs: finding strategic assets (including essential infrastructure such as roads, schools, stations, ports, etc.); low costs (including land and labor); innovation motivation with great added value. Therefore, digital transformation is a need to enhance the competitiveness of localities.

To have digital transformation products and services provided to the market, it is necessary to have experts and consultants to apply new technology in factories and production facilities.

Dr. Bac said that Bac Ninh ranked first according to the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (now the Vietnam Union of Commerce and Industry) in the index of enterprises with the least losses due to climate change and ranked fourth nationwide according to Decision 01 of the Prime Minister in the number of enterprises having to inventory greenhouse gas emissions. This is a potential market for consultants on digital transformation and smart management applications.

Also at this Forum, speakers from FPT Software, Liferay, VTI Group brought a number of technical solutions to effectively support digital transformation and digital transformation businesses such as AI applications in industrial production, DXP, MES, PiSafe, etc.
