On June 6, 2024, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in collaboration with Medical Excellence JAPAN, Japan organized a workshop on "Digital transformation of healthcare with the Internet of Things and smart healthcare". The workshop attracted nearly 200 delegates from hospitals, medical facilities and universities and colleges of medicine and pharmacy nationwide.
Workshop "Digital transformation of healthcare with internet of things and smart healthcare".
At the workshop, a representative of the Department of Health of Thua Thien Hue province said that, implementing the digital transformation of the health sector, currently the implementation of electronic health record management for the entire population in the province has reached 95%, 100% of units have implemented the remote medical examination and treatment consultation program "Doctor for every home", the implementation of the electronic medical statistics system has reached 100%...
In addition to the achieved results, digital transformation activities are facing some difficulties such as awareness in applying information technology has not kept up with the digital transformation process. Infrastructure and equipment development is not commensurate with the volume of medical data that needs to be managed.
Information systems, databases, and platforms are still fragmented and not connected to each other. Some major orientations on information technology application and digital transformation in the fields of the health sector are still slow to be implemented.
According to the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Department of Health, digital transformation in the health sector helps people easily access health information to use highly effective health services and have their health protected, cared for, and improved continuously throughout their lives.
Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam, Deputy Director of the National Center for Health Information, spoke at the workshop.
At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam, Deputy Director of the National Health Information Center ( Ministry of Health ) said that the goal of digital transformation in the health sector is to increase benefits for people in health care and protection. Create conditions for people to access timely and effective health services.
At the same time, create conditions for medical staff to operate and provide effective medical services in the online environment. Help develop digital medical service providers, creating an environment for medical service providers to develop together.
The Deputy Director of the National Health Information Center proposed solutions to promote digital transformation. Specifically, implementing information transparency, in which information must be collected, managed, circulated, and shared to necessary places in a complete, timely, and accurate manner.
Building connection platforms to connect units, connect medical facilities with people, connect with businesses providing medical services, and provide connection infrastructure for medical activities in the online environment.
"There needs to be a service plan to open up an environment for businesses to provide services as well as to build standards and financial mechanisms for information technology activities in the healthcare sector.... Public healthcare accounts for a large proportion, so there needs to be standards to build service prices and financial mechanisms to pay for input costs," said Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam.
According to Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam, digital transformation is not a matter of technology, but how to apply and effectively transfer medical activities to the digital environment.
At the conference, experts in the healthcare and technology sectors exchanged views and shared knowledge on the development and coordination of healthcare information infrastructure, improving the safety and quality of healthcare through IoT applications, contributing to the digital development of outpatient and comprehensive healthcare.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that the workshop aims to promote cooperation and mutual learning between Vietnam and Japan. Through the workshop, it is expected to help raise awareness and promote digital transformation applications, contributing to the modernization of services to protect, care for and improve people's health./.
