On November 3, Bach Mai Hospital organized the 33rd Scientific Conference with the theme: "Digital transformation and artificial intelligence - The foundation for breakthrough development of modern medicine". This is an opportunity to share knowledge, update the latest research achievements and discuss the direction of Vietnamese medicine in the digital transformation era.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital said: As a central general hospital at the end of the line, Bach Mai is always a pioneer in research, innovation and application of modern technology into practice. Over the years, the Hospital has conducted research with high practical value in many fields: emergency resuscitation, cardiology, oncology, infectious diseases, nuclear medicine, diagnostic imaging and smart medical management.

This year's conference has a scale of one plenary session, 32 thematic sessions and 6 satellite sessions with 150 chairpersons, 273 domestic and international reporters with 300 scientific reports, sharing research works of high practical value in many fields: emergency resuscitation, cardiology, oncology, infectious diseases, nuclear medicine, diagnostic imaging, and smart medical management... opening up many new ideas, solutions and directions for the development of Vietnamese medicine: more modern, more humane, patient-centered and science-driven.
Speaking at the Conference, Professor, Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, Chairman of the National Medical Council, said that the Bach Mai Hospital Scientific Conference is not only an annual professional event, but has become an academic space, a place to exchange, spread and create new values for the development of the Vietnamese health sector.
The theme of the conference is “Digital transformation and artificial intelligence - The foundation for breakthrough development of modern medicine” which is not only topical but also demonstrates foresight and strategic action thinking. In a world that is shifting strongly towards data medicine, digital medicine and personalized medicine, the application of artificial intelligence, big data, simulation robots, Internet of Things connection in medicine... is no longer an option, but a mandatory requirement for a modern health system.

"We are entering an era where technology will not replace humans, but will be an extension of knowledge, a catalyst for more accurate, timely and humane clinical decisions. There will no longer be boundaries between treatment and preventive medicine; between hospitals and communities; between doctors and data. All are connected in a smart ecosystem, with patients at the center," said Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan.
Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan stated: This strategic orientation is completely consistent with the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, which emphasizes that Breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation are the main driving forces for the country's rapid and sustainable development. The health sector needs to be a pioneer in concretizing that spirit, because this is a field directly related to the health, life and happiness of the people.
Along with that, Resolution No. 72 - NQ/TW of the Politburo also established a fundamental innovation mindset: Strongly shifting from a mindset focusing on medical examination and treatment to proactive disease prevention, focusing on protecting, caring for, and improving comprehensive health, continuously throughout the life cycle.
In 2025, Bach Mai Hospital will be honored to become one of the first public hospitals in the country to be recognized and licensed by the Ministry of Health to meet all three standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in the fields of Medicine, New Methods - New Techniques and Medical Equipment. This is an important condition for scientific and technological products to be tested and successfully applied in diagnosis, treatment and prevention, thereby creating a premise for the effective development of high-quality health care services for people right in Vietnam.
These are revolutionary directives that require the active and pioneering participation of leading medical centers such as Bach Mai Hospital, which not only care for patients, but are also centers of knowledge creation, technology development, and connecting innovative medical ecosystems nationwide.
Therefore, the conference will be a strong push to unleash creativity, so that scientists, doctors, managers, and businesses can together create an innovative ecosystem for Vietnamese healthcare. An ecosystem where data is a national asset, artificial intelligence is an assistant to doctors, patients are the center of all policies, and doctors are protected by knowledge, ethics, and modern institutions.
I hope that from this scientific forum, there will be more breakthrough recommendations, feasible models, and action initiatives so that the Ministry of Health and related ministries and sectors can continue to perfect institutions, open up mechanisms, promote digital transformation and innovation in healthcare in a substantial, sustainable, and national manner.

Medicine is not only the science of healing but also the art of sowing hope. In the age of data and machine learning, if there is anything that cannot be digitized, it is the heart, the responsibility, the courage of Vietnamese physicians. From Bach Mai, a symbol of knowledge and humanity, I call on us to continue the journey of innovation of the Vietnamese healthcare sector, a healthcare system that is more modern, fairer, smarter, but always compassionate, always for the people.
