According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , early in the morning of September 8, Dr. Nguyen Ta Quyet, Head of the Hepatobiliary Department, Binh Dan Hospital, flew to Con Dao to support the treatment of a seriously ill patient who had just been admitted to the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
The patient was a 17-year-old male student who was hit from behind by a car and then fell 4 meters forward. The CT scan also showed that the patient had a grade IV left kidney injury with a fluid and hematoma, a grade III spleen injury, a bruised tail of the pancreas, and free fluid in the abdomen suspected to be blood.
The patient was transfused with 1 unit of packed red blood cells and 4 units of plasma. The patient is currently stable and continues to be monitored and cared for intensively.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health highly appreciated the decision of the Director of Binh Dan Hospital to send more good specialist doctors to Con Dao to increase the number of consultants, consultations and care for patients with serious injuries instead of transferring them to the hospital.
"This is the safest option for patients with closed abdominal trauma, especially in the context that the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center has enough treatment equipment, especially the operating room and blood bank that have just been deployed by other hospitals," the Department of Health informed.
Previously, on September 6, a group of doctors working on rotation at Con Dao of Binh Dan Hospital, together with local colleagues, successfully performed the first laparoscopic surgery here for a fisherman with acute appendicitis.
According to Associate Professor Tran Vinh Hung, Director of Binh Dan Hospital, after receiving the task of developing expertise for the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the hospital consulted the Department of Health and the locality to equip a modern operating room system from the laparoscopic system, CO2 gas and standard surgical instruments to the anesthesia - recovery system.
In addition, the hospital sent two doctors with experience in general surgery and anesthesia to work on-site. With the above resources, the hospital's board of directors and the on-site team of doctors decided that applying laparoscopic appendectomy technique to the patient was completely feasible.
