Stories about amateur journalists

(GLO)- Although not trained in journalism, with enthusiasm, many collaborators of Gia Lai Newspaper still nurture their passion for journalism, diligently recording every moment of life at the grassroots level, becoming an extension of the editorial office in spreading information and connecting the community.

1. For Ms. Vo Thanh Thao (Dam San Music and Dance Theater), writing is a way to express her love for her homeland and contribute to spreading the beauty of the highlands to the community. For many years, she has been attached to writing as a passion alongside her main job of promoting, informing and promoting tourism through events inside and outside the province.

She shared: Working in the tourism sector, she had the opportunity to travel to many places, surveying the potential of destinations in all localities in the province. Those trips helped her understand more about the life, culture and customs of the ethnic communities in the province. She had the opportunity to see with her own eyes the wild waterfalls hidden deep in the primeval forests or discover the simple, pristine beauty of remote villages. From then on, her love for the highlands was conveyed through each page she wrote. “However, with a little talent, I was always aware that the initial articles were still clumsy and not in line with the journalistic style. Therefore, I am very grateful to the editors, especially the Gia Lai Newspaper Editorial Board, who always guided and supported me to get my articles published,” Ms. Thao confided.

For Ms. Thao, writing is not only a way to express her love for her homeland but also a way to spread the beauty of her homeland to the community. “The greatest joy for a writer is when her work is well received by readers. That is the motivation for me to continue to improve myself and be more committed to writing,” Ms. Thao said.

2. From a poem to a journey of writing articles, it was a coincidental but meaningful beginning for Ms. Nguyen Lu Thu Hong - Teacher at Nghia Hung Secondary School (Chu Pah District). After the poem was published in 2017 and through sincere encouragement from the editorial staff, Ms. Hong was given more motivation on her journey to become a contributor.

According to Ms. Hong, journalism is a special field, requiring a solid professional foundation, sharp thinking and the ability to adapt quickly. Those are also the factors that she believes she lacks. "I mainly collaborate with Gia Lai Newspaper in the arts section, and there are not many articles that reflect deeply on other areas of life," Ms. Hong confided.

Recalling a memorable memory, Ms. Hong said: That was the time she drove a motorbike nearly 50 km to Green Beli Farm (Hai Yang commune, Dak Doa district) to write an article "Dream Project" about clean farmers. After a day of traveling, chatting and taking notes, she completed the article and was lucky to be awarded the encouragement prize in the "Pleiku-Green Plateau for Health" contest in 2023. For her, it was not only a beautiful experience but also an opportunity to better understand the hardships of journalists when working.

3. The journey of Lieutenant Colonel Pham Huy Bac (Provincial Military Command) into writing began when he was a narrator at the Traditional House of the Armed Forces and People of Gia Lai Province. At that time, his main task was to introduce to visitors the artifacts, images, and heroic historical stories of the army and people of the province through the ages. His expressive voice, coherent and friendly way of speaking, and his understanding of local history made each story he told vivid and attractive. It was also thanks to that expressive voice that he was trusted by the head of the Political Department and assigned to read the commentary for short reports and internal propaganda clips.

And then, he boldly wrote articles to collaborate with the newspaper. He said: “At first, I did not understand what news, reflection articles, and reports were, but I only recounted what I saw, heard, and felt in my work and life. Unexpectedly, after being edited by the editorial board, some news and articles were published.” From then on, he learned how to write news and articles in a more systematic and professional manner. The news articles he presented appeared more frequently in Gia Lai Newspaper, Military Zone 5 Newspaper, and the defense section on local television… becoming the motivation for him to continue writing.

Every day, he still diligently learns his profession with his passion, his eagerness to learn and his attachment to reality. He follows officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces to remote villages, border posts; accompanies them on training grounds or helps people during the rainy and stormy season... Because for him, writing for the newspaper is not only recording events but also a way to preserve and spread beautiful stories of military life.
