The new video , published on the CIA's official X social media page, appeals to patriotic Russians who work in the intelligence community but feel betrayed by alleged corruption among the elite, as well as dissatisfaction with the military's lack of equipment, according to Reuters.

"People around you may not want to hear the truth, but we do. You are not helpless," the voiceover says before describing how to contact the CIA.
The video features a fictional male employee of a Russian military intelligence agency who describes himself as a Russian patriot who served in the paratroopers but now sees corruption. The fictional character says that patriotism motivated him to act and work for the CIA.
This is the latest in a series of videos the CIA has released aimed at Russia. Last July, CIA Director William Burns assessed that discontent among some Russians over the war in Ukraine was creating a rare opportunity for the CIA to recruit spies.
At a press conference on January 23, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied the corruption allegations as shown in the video, affirming that Moscow has done everything to ensure that the Russian military has the necessary equipment to succeed in the campaign in Ukraine.
"You know, this activity is quite common. Intelligence agencies around the world very often use the media and social networks to recruit new employees. And they do it all the time. The CIA does it every year," Mr. Peskov said.
The spokesman said the CIA made a mistake by posting the video on X (formerly known as Twitter) because the social network is banned in Russia and cannot be accessed without a virtual private network (VPN). "Someone needs to tell the CIA that our VKontakte network is much more popular than the banned X network. And VKontakte's audience is much larger," Mr. Peskov said.
