
Representatives of Ngo boat teams draw lots to rank the tables.
Attending the event were Most Venerable Tang No, Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Central Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, President of the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks and Monks of Can Tho City; Mr. Lam Hoang Mau, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Can Tho City; leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, and representatives of the participating boat teams.
This year’s tournament attracted 61 Ngo boat teams to register to compete, including 53 male teams and 8 female teams. Of which, the host city of Can Tho has 48 teams (45 male teams, 3 female teams) and the neighboring province of Ca Mau has 13 teams (8 male teams, 5 female teams).
For the men's event, 53 teams were divided into 13 groups, including 12 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 5 teams. The Organizing Committee based on the achievements of previous seasons to select 4 seeded teams for the race: Tum Nup 2 (An Ninh commune), Kos Thum 1 (Ca Mau province), Sro Lon 2 (My Xuyen ward) and Munisraskeo (Lam Tan commune), placed in different groups. The men's boat teams competed at a distance of 1,200m.
In the women's category, 8 teams are divided into 2 groups (4 teams each) to compete in a round robin to determine the first and second teams in each group to advance to the semi-finals and finals. The women's teams compete in the 1,000m distance.
The opening ceremony of the Ngo Boat Race will take place at noon on November 4, on the Maspéro River, Soc Trang Ward (Can Tho City), a vibrant highlight in the series of activities of this year's Ooc Om Boc Festival.
