Nearly 50 premature babies and their parents returned to Vinmec Times City Hospital to meet the doctors and nurses who cared for them in their early years. For the team at the Neonatal Department, this was a chance to meet and mark a special treatment journey, where each present smile reflects the previous efforts to save them.

The brave shoots grow between the line of life and death

Among the miraculous journeys of resuscitation recounted at the Premature Babies Festival, the story of Nguyen Xuan Tuyen's family moved many people.

Seven years ago, two babies, Ha Vi and Ha Chau, were born at 24 weeks, weighing only 600g and 650g - as small as an adult's hand - with weak breathing, slow heartbeat, and a slim hope of survival.

After many days of mechanical ventilation and intensive treatment, one of the two babies was found to have a large ductus arteriosus, which seriously affected hemodynamics. Medical treatment did not improve, so the Vinmec medical team was forced to hold a multidisciplinary consultation to decide on surgical intervention. With the direct participation of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem - Director of Vinmec Stem Cell and Gene Technology Research Institute, the surgery was successfully performed.

However, the ordeal was not over. After the surgery, the babies still had to be resuscitated intensively, using many vasopressors to maintain stable blood pressure. Thanks to the extraordinary will of the two babies and the tireless efforts of the doctors and nurses, both were able to be weaned off the ventilator and gradually recovered day by day.

“Every time the doctor called, my heart would break. At that time, looking at my little children, I did not dare to hope much. Many times I just felt infinite love for them, but miraculously, my children overcame it,” Tuyen, the children’s father, choked up as he recalled.

After 6 months of dedicated care at the Neonatal Department, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital, the two babies have gradually overcome the critical stage. Every heartbeat, every breath is closely monitored. Every medical intervention must be performed precisely to protect the lungs, heart and brain - organs that are still very immature.

On the day of her return today, Ha Vi (one of the twins) appeared with a bright smile, healthy and innocent like any other child, becoming a living testament to the extraordinary determination of the "young buds" who once stood between the line of life and death.

“Seeing my children healthy today, I feel grateful. Not only my children, but our whole family is lucky to have been accompanied by a team of dedicated doctors. The journey up to now is truly a miracle for me,” Tuyen shared.

Not only Ha Vi and Ha Chau, the story of two baby girls Mit (1.4kg) and Na (1.7kg) - premature twins born at 33 weeks - also moved the hall.

The two children sent a handwritten letter to their second family, the doctors and nurses at Vinmec, with sincere words: “Thank you for keeping me warm. Thank you for monitoring my every heartbeat and weak breath, patiently helping me through the most difficult moments. Thank you for encouraging my parents, giving me the belief that I will be strong and grow up every day.”

The children call the doctors here “silent heroes” - because it is their love and dedication that has given them a complete start.

Where every little life is protected by the highest medical standards

“Premature Baby Festival: Tiny Buds - Extraordinary Will” is not only an occasion to show gratitude to the medical team, but also a moment for parents to look back on their children’s miraculous journey. Images of babies in the NICU, tiny hands being held tenderly or the anxious eyes of parents… all moved attendees.

During the festival, doctors at Vinmec conducted general examinations, weighed and assessed the physical condition of premature babies treated at the Neonatal Department based on the Denver II developmental assessment scale.

In addition, children can also participate in fun activities, write wishes on the "Light Tree" and receive special gifts for the brave "young buds".

“Before the festival, we were as excited as if waiting for our loved ones to return after a long time apart. The premature babies stayed with us for many months, so the relationship was not just that of doctor and patient but also that of family.

Today, seeing the children running, developing normally and catching up with their peers, the joy and pride is hard to describe - a happiness that perhaps only neonatologists can feel", Dr. Mai Kieu Anh, Head of the Department of Neonatology at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital, shared at the event.

Since its establishment, Vinmec Times City Neonatal Department has received 32,162 babies, of which 1,230 were premature, with a survival rate of 97.54%. Behind these numbers are the tears, perseverance and never-letting hands of the medical staff and nurses.

Each success is the result of close coordination between the Obstetrics - Pediatrics - Neonatology departments, of absolutely precise techniques and love for children.

With a standardized professional foundation across the system, Vinmec is currently one of the leading medical units in caring for premature infants - especially extremely premature infants with a low rate of serious complications.

This capacity is created by the comprehensive synchronization of technology, equipment and treatment regimen, combined with a close care model with a ratio of 1 nurse - 1 child. Thanks to that, every premature baby at Vinmec is closely monitored, meticulously cared for and promptly intervened.

It is this close coordination that helps to minimize complications, reduce the risk of infection and create a solid foundation for the development of children in the very fragile first months of life.

“When I see babies who were once as small as a hand now running and laughing loudly in the hall, I deeply feel the value of the journey that Vinmec is pursuing. Each life that is preserved is the crystallization of knowledge, perseverance and limitless love.

It is you - the 'little warriors' - who are the driving force for us to continue to improve Vietnamese medicine, so that miracles can be written every day," Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Dung - General Director of Vinmec Healthcare System - shared at the festival.
