Reuters on September 23 quoted Norwegian police as saying that the former Wagner commander, about 20 years old, was arrested while attempting to illegally cross the border. However, they did not name this person.
In January this year, a former Wagner commander named Andrei Medvedev fled Russia via the Russian-Norwegian border, later seeking asylum in Norway. Medvedev said he was shot by Russian border guards, and recounted his time fighting in Ukraine.

Medvedev's lawyer, Brynjulf Risnes, identified the person arrested by Norwegian authorities in an announcement on the evening of September 22 as Medvedev but asserted that the arrest was "due to a misunderstanding".
"He was there to see if he could find the place where he had crossed into Norway in January this year. He was stopped in a taxi. He had not come close to the border and had no intention of crossing into Russia," lawyer Risnes told Reuters .
In May this year, Medvedev shared his intention to return to Russia in a video posted on his YouTube channel. Medvedev said he "doesn't want to continue being a boy in a big game".
Medvedev was previously convicted in Norway in April of involvement in a bar fight and carrying an air gun but was acquitted.
According to lawyer Risnes, Medvedev has the right to return to Russia if he wants, but many things need to be done to ensure his safety.
