Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Decision No. 759/QD-TTg dated April 14, 2025 approving the Project on rearranging and reorganizing administrative units at all levels and building a 2-level local government organization model.
A corner of Da Lat city center, Lam Dong province. Accordingly, Dak Nong province, Binh Thuan province and Lam Dong province merged into a new province called Lam Dong province , the administrative- political center is located in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province today. This province will have the largest natural area in the country with 24,233km2, population size of 3,324,400 people.
The project clearly states the viewpoints, objectives, and principles of arrangement. In particular, the arrangement of administrative units at all levels, in addition to the criteria on natural area and population size as prescribed by law, must carefully consider the criteria on history, tradition, culture, ethnicity; location, geographical conditions; scale, level of socio-economic development; transport infrastructure, information technology; requirements to ensure national defense, security and international integration.
Previously, Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW of the 11th Central Conference, Session XIII, the Central Executive Committee resolved that the number of provincial-level administrative units after the merger is 34 provinces and cities (28 provinces and 6 centrally-run cities); the names and political-administrative centers of provincial-level administrative units after the arrangement are determined according to the principles stated in the Submission and Project of the Government Party Committee.
According to Resolution No. 60 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, Lam Dong merged with Dak Nong and Binh Thuan provinces, expected to take the name Lam Dong province, the political-administrative center located in Lam Dong province.
On April 14, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Tran Hong Thai signed a document to send to departments, branches and sectors on the development of a project to reorganize provincial administrative units. Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee assigned departments, branches and sectors of the province to preside over and actively coordinate with departments, branches and sectors of Binh Thuan and Dak Nong provinces to organize the development of a project to merge each department, branch and sector of the 3 provinces; ensure progress according to plan; complete the project and send it to Lam Dong Department of Home Affairs for appraisal and synthesis before April 22.
