Da Nang successfully grows lilies

VnExpressVnExpress04/02/2024

Lilies, also known as lilies, were originally only grown in Hanoi and Da Lat, but are now grown in the central coastal city. Their petals are thicker and whiter.

On February 4, the Center for Biotechnology (Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang) announced the successful planting of 5,000 lily plants on an area of 300 square meters. The plants are about 80-100 cm tall, the flowers bloom evenly, with pure white and yellow pistils.

After 3 months of selecting, planting and caring for the plants, the plants grew well and produced flowers at a rate of over 85%. This flower species was previously only grown in Da Lat and Hanoi. In Hanoi, the flowers usually bloom in April.

The research team has applied many technical solutions to solve environmental and climatic challenges between the Central region, the North and the highlands when piloting the cultivation of this flower species.

"Because the temperature in Da Nang is high, the growing time is shorter and the flowers bloom earlier, right on Tet. The petals are also thicker, stronger and whiter," said Dr. Nguyen Quyet, Head of Applied Science Department, Center for Biotechnology.

Mr. Quyet said the flowers last for 7-10 days. People and tourists can come and take photos with the flowers for free from February 5, at the Biotechnology Center, at the end of lane 1014 Ton Dan Street (Cam Le District).

Lilies ( Lilium longiflorum ) or lilies, lilies, lilies... are known as flowers with pure beauty, gentle fragrance, meaning reunion and harmony.

In 2019, the Danang Biotechnology Center also successfully grew off-season daisies in early spring, when this flower was known to only be grown in Hanoi and bloom in early winter.
