"THREE- LEGGED STAND"
Cua Viet Town (Gio Linh District) - Cua Tung Town (Vinh Linh District) - Con Co Island District form a solid three-legged stool, providing a strong foundation for Quang Tri Province's development of marine and island tourism . Many people hope that, if this triangle is fully exploited, unique tourism products will be created.
Quang Tri currently boasts 75 km of coastline with many beautiful beaches. Located more than 15 nautical miles from the Cua Tung and Cua Viet beaches is Con Co Island. This triangle is also close to special national historical sites such as the Vinh Moc tunnels and the Hien Luong - Ben Hai riverbanks historical site, facilitating the connection between beach tourism and cultural tourism. This triangle has even greater advantages if connections with other localities in the region are expanded, as it lies at the end of the East-West Economic Corridor, before the "corridor" crosses the Lao Bao and La Lay international border gates connecting Vietnam with Laos, northeastern Thailand, and Myanmar.

In its strategy for developing coastal and island tourism, the Quang Tri provincial government has approved the general planning for the construction of tourism service areas along the Cua Tung - Cua Viet coastal road, the Cua Tung - Vinh Moc route, the Cua Viet tourism service area, and the Con Co island district tourism area. Many preferential policies and support measures for businesses and investors to build accommodation facilities have been issued. To date, the Cua Viet coastal tourism area has been planned and invested in quite comprehensively in terms of infrastructure, and the Cua Viet - Cua Tung coastal road has also been completed. Cua Tung and Cua Viet are also two locations where festivals are frequently held. Most recently, at the 2023 National Food and Culture Festival held on April 30th - May 1st in Cua Viet, more than 40,000 visitors flocked there to visit, eat, and have fun.
In recent years, the local government has invested significantly in Con Co Island, aiming to transform it into a green tourist destination. The tourist route to Con Co Island has become a prominent highlight of Quang Tri tourism. The island attracts visitors with its pristine scenery and diverse ecosystem. Notably, two high-speed boats now transport tourists to the island in just 45 minutes, compared to 2 hours previously. Con Co Island district has integrated and allocated funds to renovate several tourist attractions and develop and upgrade essential services such as electric shuttle buses and coral reef diving services.

" ROLLING OUT THE CARPET" TO WELCOME INVESTORS OF SUFFICIENT STATUS
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tan, Director of the Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center of Quang Tri province, "vision" here refers both to a long-term vision and a high level of economic resources. Besides its potential in historical relics and scenic landscapes, Quang Tri is still very unspoiled and needs to be developed...; if investors have a sufficiently far-sighted vision and sufficient capital, they can absolutely make a difference.
Mr. Tan observed that the development of the Cua Tung - Cua Viet - Con Co tourism triangle has not lived up to expectations. The planning is still incomplete and inconsistent; infrastructure is limited; attracting investors is slow; and many projects, if invested in, are either unfinished or lack decisive action... "Quang Tri province is always approaching, promoting, and eagerly awaiting capable investors. They can invest at each 'peak' of the triangle, but it would be even better if they had sufficient economic resources to invest both on the mainland and on the islands to increase connectivity," Mr. Tan hoped.

Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, said that the potential of this tourism triangle has been discussed extensively, but the issue is how to turn that potential into reality. "The tourism triangle has been included in Quang Tri's planning orientation for many years and continues to be included in the Quang Tri province development plan with a vision for 2030-2050. This is the right orientation, but attracting investment has not yet realized these orientations and potentials," Mr. Tuan lamented.
In this context, many investment projects in coastal tourism services in the area, despite being allocated prime land with large areas, are progressing very slowly. Therefore, in addition to reviewing and rectifying stalled projects, Quang Tri needs to continue its strategy of promoting and attracting investment, creating a favorable and equitable environment, and especially needs an airport to provide a boost.
