The historical site of Quy Nhon Port – the location of the 300-day troop transport and assembly point for the North (1954-1955) in Hai Cang Ward, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province – has been ranked as a national historical site.

The decision also stated that the protected area for the monument was determined according to the minutes and maps outlining the protected areas in the dossier.

People's Committees at all levels in localities where ranked relics are located, within their duties and powers, shall exercise state management over relics in accordance with the law on cultural heritage.

According to historical records, after the historic victory at Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954), the Vietnamese army and people forced the French colonialists to sit down at the negotiating table and sign the Geneva Accords (July 21, 1954) on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Our country was temporarily divided into two regions, with the 17th parallel as the boundary. The North was liberated and advanced towards socialism, while the South was temporarily governed by the French Union army. Two years later, a general election would be held to unify the country.

In accordance with the Geneva Agreement, Binh Dinh was designated as the area with 300 days to gather armed forces and political forces from the entire Military Region V for relocation to the North, and Quy Nhon port was chosen as the sole 300-day gathering point in the South.

This was a gathering point for our troops and resistance fighters from the South Central and Central Highlands provinces, where they boarded ships to be transported to the North.

From 1954 to 1955, Quy Nhon beach witnessed touching farewells between those leaving and those staying behind, and it was also the site of a solemn rally commemorating this event.

On May 16, 1955, the last ship carrying cadres and soldiers left Quy Nhon port for the North.

The site was classified by the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province in Decision No. 845/QD-UBND dated December 24, 2007, under the name: Quy Nhon Port - 300-day troop transport and assembly point to the North.

The historic 300-day mobilization to the North, which took place at Quy Nhon port 70 years ago, has become a major event in modern Vietnamese history.

This is a momentous historical event of strategic importance in implementing the wise guidance of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, marking a crucial turning point in the revolutionary history of the nation.
