Amidst the deep green mangrove forests and the waves that constantly lap at the sacred cape - the last mainland of the S-shaped strip, Dat Mui is not only a sacred symbol of national sovereignty but also the starting point for the aspiration to reach out to the ocean.
From a remote land, where “one step out to sea, surrounded by waves on three sides”, Dat Mui is now transforming strongly, moving towards the image of an ecological, dynamic, modern urban area – worthy of its position as the southernmost point of the Fatherland.
Sacred land and priceless potential
Dat Mui is the southernmost commune of Vietnam, belonging to Ca Mau province, with a population of over 33 thousand people and a natural area of 271.2 km². Three sides facing the sea give this land a very special geographical position - both a solid "fence" for national defense and security, and a strategic gateway opening up a direction for sustainable marine economic development.

In recent years, the life of Dat Mui people has been increasingly improved. The health system basically meets the needs of medical examination and treatment, educational facilities are invested synchronously, the quality of teaching and learning is constantly improved. In particular, the Ho Chi Minh route - a project of historical significance has connected to the commune center, opening a major turning point in the journey of infrastructure development and trade.
In the past, people had to spend many hours traveling on winding dirt roads, but now, the transportation system is being invested synchronously, gradually bringing Dat Mui closer to the economic centers in the region. Each bridge and each completed route not only shortens the geographical distance, but also proves the effort to "not let the end of the land be forgotten".
When mentioning Dat Mui, people immediately think of eco-tourism - the most strongly developing type of the commune and also the highlight of Ca Mau tourism. Every year, this place welcomes more than 500 thousand domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience. It is predicted that when the Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway is completed, the number of visitors will increase dramatically.
Not only possessing a rich mangrove ecosystem - the "green lung" of the far South, Dat Mui is also attractive for its tours through the forest, exploring the mangrove trails, where visitors can watch flocks of birds flying back to their nests, feeling the harmony between land, water and sky. This is a golden advantage for the locality to develop eco-tourism associated with nature conservation, both raising community awareness and creating sustainable livelihoods for the people.
In particular, the community tourism model is gradually taking shape, bringing a stable source of income to hundreds of households. The people of Dat Mui are not only doing tourism, they are telling their own story – a story of enduring vitality at the end of the Fatherland.
From new countryside to modern ecological urban area
Recognized as meeting new rural standards and recently meeting type V urban standards, Dat Mui has made great strides on the path of development. However, with its geographical location far from the center, the terrain is mainly weak soil, and the rivers are crisscrossed, the development and maintenance of urban criteria still face many difficulties.
The local economy is still heavily dependent on natural production, and the application of science and technology in farming and processing is limited. In addition, problems in land management, planning and investment attraction are also "bottlenecks" that need to be resolved to expand urban space and develop multi-sector economy.
However, with the desire to rise and strategic vision, Dat Mui is making efforts every day. The Party committees, authorities and people here understand that: Only when there is synchronous infrastructure and sustainable planning, can Dat Mui urban area truly "take off".

Ca Mau in general and Dat Mui in particular are receiving attention from the Central Government in investing in a series of key projects of strategic significance, creating a solid foundation for a new breakthrough period.
Among them, the Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway, the Dat Mui - Hon Khoai connecting route, Hon Khoai seaport, and the coastal route are projects of national scale. These are not only traffic works, but also "leverages" to open up new development space, exploiting to the maximum the potential of the marine economy and the strategic location advantage of the southernmost land.
In particular, Hon Khoai general seaport is expected to become one of the most important deep-water ports in the region, making Dat Mui an international trade gateway, directly connecting with major shipping routes in the world. When the project comes into operation, goods, agricultural products, and aquatic products of Ca Mau and the Mekong Delta will have the opportunity to be exported directly, reducing logistics costs and transportation time.
No longer the "end of the world", Dat Mui will become the "starting point" for the marine economic corridor - marking the country's aspiration to reach out to the sea.
Three major groups of solutions for the new journey
To materialize the vision of sustainable development, Dat Mui commune identified three key groups of solutions. First, Dat Mui mobilized the combined strength of the entire political system, promoted the proactive spirit of each Party Committee and each citizen, and joined together with the highest determination. This is the foundation for the commune to successfully build a modern, ecological urban model, linking economic development with environmental protection.
Next, the commune focuses on synchronously implementing solutions to complete the criteria for a type V urban area, aiming towards a modern - ecological - tourist coastal urban area, becoming an important destination on the Vietnam tourism map. Along with that is the planning of urban space development in an open direction, connecting with key areas of Ca Mau province.
Finally, Dat Mui promotes digital transformation, applying high technology in urban management, agricultural and fishery production, and developing innovative startup models. This will be the direction to help Dat Mui increase product value, improve competitiveness, and gradually form a knowledge-based economy.

To make the aspiration of Dat Mui soon become a reality, the locality recommends that the province and competent authorities continue to direct and support in many areas: First, prioritize planning for the development of traffic infrastructure associated with future industrial parks and clusters; synchronous connection with seaports, logistics and logistics service chains.
Second, research coastal subdivisions to develop sustainable urban, residential and ecological resorts, associated with mangrove conservation and climate change response.
Third, support the development of high-tech agriculture, fishery and forestry, create specialized production areas, ecological shrimp farming, export processing, and combine ecological environmental protection.
Fourth, pay attention to training human resources for tourism, environment, and planning - key areas to help Dat Mui develop sustainably in the future.
With unanimity, determination and aspiration to rise, Dat Mui is gradually affirming its new position - from "the land at the end of the sky" to "the starting heart" for the national marine economic development strategy.
No longer a stopping point, Dat Mui today is a starting point - where the aspiration to go far and wide is being lit up every day. And when the highway, seaport, urban area, and tourist area are gradually formed, the land at the southernmost tip of the Fatherland will truly shine - worthy of being the pride of the whole country, a living symbol of the will, mettle, and aspiration of Vietnam.
