With the current price of commercial hybrid acacia wood, growers earn about 130-150 million VND/ha after deducting costs.
Having just finished harvesting more than 2 hectares of hybrid acacia, Mr. Duong Tung Son (Hamlet 16, Khanh Lam Commune) excitedly shared: "Currently, hybrid acacia is being purchased by traders at a price of 180-250 million VND/ha, an increase of 10-30 million VND compared to the beginning of the year."
Mr. Son added that at the end of last year, the price of raw acacia wood began to increase by about 20 million VND/ha compared to 2023, making people very excited. At the beginning of 2025, there was a time when the price reached 200 million VND/ha, the purchasing power was strong, and towards the end of the year, the price tended to increase.
The high price of hybrid acacia also brings joy to people in the forest area of Nguyen Phich commune. With more than 12,000 hectares of forest land, in recent years, people here have strongly switched to growing hybrid acacia because of its advantages of easy care, short cultivation time and high profit after harvest.
The vast acacia forests in Khanh Lam commune bring a prosperous life to the people.
According to the calculation of Mr. Doan Van Luc (Hamlet 14, Nguyen Phich Commune), the total investment cost for 1 hectare of hybrid acacia forest during the 5-year cycle, including seedlings, fertilizers, and care, is about 30 million VND. If well cared for and properly applied with the techniques instructed by the professional sector, after about 5 years, the wood will reach the harvest standard. With the current selling price, after deducting costs, people can make a profit of 130-150 million VND/ha.
Having been involved in the forestry profession for nearly 30 years in Nguyen Phich commune, Mr. Cao Vu Dien shared: “There has never been a year when hybrid acacia wood has been as expensive as this year. This is the happiest season for foresters in U Minh Ha. Since 1999, when we came here to receive land and forest, we mainly planted cajuput . But cajuput trees take more than 5 years to harvest, and the selling price is low. Since switching to hybrid acacia, profits have increased 3 times, helping people improve their income, and their lives have become more and more prosperous.”
Bustling atmosphere of the hybrid acacia harvest season in Nguyen Phich commune.
In recent years, hybrid acacia has become the “billion-dollar tree” of the U Minh Ha region, helping many households escape poverty and become well-off. The positive signal from the current commercial acacia price not only brings excitement but also motivates people to continue to stick with the profession of afforestation and develop the economy under the forest canopy.
